Truth ^^^^ last 2 paragraphs, mostly. I'm good, either way. Only one truck in our small fleet is mandated; boss may do them all; I care not. I "almost" meet the 100 air miles with what I run and where, but not quite.
I just have an aversion to learning new computer type technology. I was an IT guy in the late 80's, so what's that tell ya, LoL. Don't even have a smart phone, haha.

I know the look of genuine disgust / contempt when dude was telling me about the two super carrier's struggling. It's going to be interesting.
Cause there are still going to be accidents, weather, and breakdowns.x1Heavy, passingthru69 and G13Tomcat Thank this. -

Sometimes I think the young ones use the truck to ESCAPE parental control and other needful things in their tender years. I remember a video where a young one abused a pete trying to make it jake out a rap tune. Whatever that was in a cab full of other young ones who have no business being inside that thing from a liability and legal stand point. It's disgusting.
99% of all ELOG and Paper log conflicts can be settled by the driver planning the trip in detail, a structured form that needs fill out the same way every time. Then recap to be examined, weights checked and so on. Fuel accounted for and stops for sleep planned. In essence old fashioned trucking.
Then making a realistic appointment time decided by the driver picking up the load after he gets loaded. And only then. No more losing 8 hours dead head somewhere, then 12 to 30 hours loading etc etc etc. No more. They cry about jobs. Get teenagers into the grocery and warehouses, pay em 20 an hour. Bill em for destroyed food products each week.
Basically going back to the 60's where anyone can come off the street and did work in a transfer dock or transload facility etc. stacking stuff on the floor or slip sheets prior to the invention of pallets and LONG before the invention of Containers.
Finally but not least., Training people just enough to pass the state adminstered driving test and endorsements has to be expanded to cover everything. Every student should spend two hours sitting with his or her dispatcher 40 hours a week participating in phone calls to shippers and recievers to hammer out appointments, fix dead trucks and so on.
Then they spend another two weeks in the shop of a given company, throw tires, wheels, then move on to heavier repairs. Eventually they WILL learn enough to be very accurate in diagnosing a problem 200 miles into wyoming instead of saying, my truck died. And then answer every single queistion with I don't know from anyone who is interested and trained to fix dead trucks.
Spend another two weeks in safety, then two weeks in permits and logging etc. Then fueling. Then travel to the nearest scales and sit there learning from DOT inspectors who are now instructors. In a few months time this person will be very well trained and with salary paid fixed such as 2000 gross, 1500 net etc without regard to the weekly mileage feast and famine half the forums will empty out because no one will be left to complain about 100 miles a week or 4000 miles...
Eventually these new drivers should be trained how to say no to dispatchers determined to break them physically, bully them mentally and otherwise threaten firing for every little thing. No wonder half the drivers are nuerotic and quit in 3 months.
Imagine if Airline ATP pilots were treated taht way or the controllers etc. Nothing will work.
And the cars? They need segregation away from trucking some sort of manner. So that they cannot interact in any way with a semi or any other truck engaged in work in any physical way.
And the speeds, horsepower etc should be a common, such as 90 top. Our tires are engineered to accept a 85 mph average speed for heavy trucks usually. If you cannot and will not let the big dogs run, there is no point.
No wonder you are late. Chokced and casterated by your own company imposed governor.

What's the difference between the 100 and 150 mile radius.
To which i'm glad i fall in to that category.
And i wouldn't completely rule out OOIDA. They HAVE won some battles.
This wasn't their first time fighting elds. They successfully won that argument in the first round a few years back. And what about the harrassement Minnesota was doing?Last edited: Jun 13, 2017
