What about Millis Transfer? I was thinking after I do my first one year. Leaving on good terms and take about a week or two at home going over new companies and applying. Unless it's better to stay at a company and apply at others before leaving? I will be starting at SNI actually.
Stay at schneider or move on...?

What kind of trucking is it that can do 6 on 6 off?
That sounds perfectaustinmike Thanks this. -
Slip seat. Could make more money with fewer days off but I like those days off. When I first started it was 4 on 4 off. I said that sounds real good sign me up.
We gave a fossil works here he likes to stay out 2 or 3 weeks at a time then takes a few days off - -
How about the walmart/schneider gig in Gordonsville we have guys there that go home every night/day according to what shift they're on most trucks are auto now and only 2 years old and the job is really easy and i average 1k a week working 6 day stints and 2 at home but I'm 150 miles away.

What's the great stuff I'm missing in Ohio. Just getting into the career and no experience what are my options in Ohio?G13Tomcat Thanks this.

There's a plethora of LTL options here.... Dayton, Estes, ODFL, ..... to name a few. Many hire fresh out of school; might be dock to drive programs, but still excellent way to get in to the industry.
The port in Toledo has SO MANY various carriers in and out. I'm not a container hauler, but ... search on this site; pays well... just requires TWIC and HazMat.
GFS and other food haulers, all around. Beer and Cola guys .... many hubs here in Ohio, and yes, they take newbies.
Tanks... milk haulers, SNI bulk, other moving of asphalt (as I do, but I work for a private fleet....)
Temups Transport.... it's an expedited trucking company in our state....
With CSX rxr nearby, we have many plants that process the foods/products, for baked goods...also yields to a lot of hauling companies for corrugated hauling, to Heinz, Smuckers, etc... Fab Express comes to mind; runs all over the state.
Rover pipeline still going in, a lot of OS/OD/OW/HH (ok, probably not if you're new.)
I still get calls/texts/emails from recruiters, and I've been at my current gig for 6 years; driving for just under 20 years.
I'm sure I'm missing tons; don't know much about reefer; only did it for awhile as a favor, years ago when I started out.
Oh yeah, there's a big FedEx hub by the airport here, as well. None of my Ohio buddies stay looking for work long at all, with CDL in hand.slim shady Thanks this. -
@Chinatown can probably be more company specific, especially with reefer, because I know nothing there.
Just saying, we have a LOT of freight moving thru and within our state....! Best of luck, @mm$ . -
Any these have cdl schools or should I look into some financial aid for schoolsG13Tomcat Thanks this.

Well as a quick update.
1- I'm a little sad that I can't move to Ohio.. lol
2 - applied at tiger fuel. We shall see what happens. It would be a pretty legit gig from what I can tell, at least for the being home more often side of it. Their lot is 5 minutes from my house.
3 - looks like I'll be saying bye to schneider. From what I've seen over the last year, I won't make decent money if I'm out two weeks and home for the weekend. First week is good and second week is utter crap while they're routing me back to the house. Looking at gordonsville dedicated Walmart, it's primarily night driving and I'd be taking a pay cut to go there, so that makes not much sense. And finally looking at the choice program.. it's kind of funny actually. If I apply as a company driver switching to IC, my overspeed is too high and I have to work on it. If I quit company and apply as a random person off the street, they'll take me immediately. And that's straight from their recruiter earlier... soooooo lol. I don't necessarily think it's a good option though, especially since I'd be doing it to be home more often...
4 - also looked at a few bulk carriers around Richmond. And a few ltl carriers. And at ups in Charlottesville and Waynesboro. Those are both hiring for seasonal, so I might just do that if tiger fuel doesn't take me. We shall see -
The WOIA or (sp?) would definitely help you with financial aid for CDL school. The ones i've mentioned; not sure...sorry. I've had my CDL since the 80's and had to take a refresher in 2000 something.
Google;
search on HERE;
but personally, not knowing what freight you really seek to haul, I just don't know.
SNI has schooling, and they haul a LOT of bulk and other stuff within our state. I'm not their biggest fan, because they can get "strict" ... so I hear, but....
My 1st OTR companies were USX (I know, they get a bad rap, but I did okay) and Transport America. I did rather well there, got to bring the rig home; that helped. As far as training? Sure don't know.
Hopefully somebody else will chime in soon.
Kudos anyway, man~!
@Chinatown ????? Are you sleeping? LoL~ I should be.
