What's sad is OOIDA knew it was a losing case that they couldn't argue. Instead they spent 3 years dangling a shiny object to increase membership. I don't care if they had millions of members, if your argument makes no sense it doesn't matter.
Ridgeline is 100 percent correct. There are issues happening right now that threaten O/O and small companies and this wasn't it. When a state like Ohio, or Georgia or even more likely NY won't allow a ten year old truck to cross it's borders on a highway I helped pay for I won't be looking to OOIDA for help. They would be to busy fighting for minimum driving standards anyhow. The other shiny object.

I have a ten year old tuck and can't run in CA. It would be easy for other states to adopt the same rules. See, there are huge problems we are facing. I'm not sure what clarity you want?

    I guess I was not clear...lol

Why do u say NY, OH, GA might adopt these rules. What's in it for them?

I understand CA want to be the "clean-freak" of USA....but GA? OH?...naaaah, I don't see it.

Also, I read somewhere that pre-emmissions trucks can run in CA. U just need a 3 day permit or something like that.

Finally, there's people on YouTube running CAT's in CA even though these engines are not emissions friendly.

What I'm trying to understand is your reference to having a 10+ yr old truck, and worrying abut these states.

    May I'm missing something

You can't run California because your not a certified clean idle ( DEF ) truck. That's a far cry from just saying states will blackball you because your truck is 10 years old.

And I know several guys that run into California constantly with 10 year and older trucks. They know how not to get caught. Yes every agreement says " You certify the truck is clean idle compliant ".

My nads aren't that big. And I plan on running Ca a lot so I bought a DEF truck.

I know exactly why I can't run in CA and it is a far bigger problem than Eld's ever where. I don't follow your point. It's not DEF either it needs a DPF. Unless that has changed as well.

The pre DEF trucks have a limited shelf life. They have one exemption that truck can be any age, but not more than 800K miles. DEF is the easy way out. Not sure what the expiration is on DPF only. To put a DPF on a truck it's like $10K to $12K.
Cost of doing business if you wanna pull freight out of there.

In my opinion to have a DEF truck, or DPF truck without an APU is madness, because the idling is what kills the system. There are places now that will service the DPF for a few hundred bucks.

My Volvo had a " smart idle " system that changed the speed of the idle all the time, and did like mini regens, but I never had a problem.

My new ( to me ) truck has an APU. I mean there a little thought that needs to go into things. Let's see, gonna be driving around in the desert. Should I make preparations to stay cool?

The eloggers have won for the moment. And they are gloating mightily.

But The Lord has also taught " To take no joy over another mans sorrow. Or The Lord will take His wrath away from that man, and put His face squarely against ye. "

It's just round 4 for of a 15 round fight. Things change and evolve. Perhaps you still use a payphone?
