Your tractor has to be 2011 or newer and be clean idle certified. Your reefer is good for 7 years from the year of the engine. I have a 2011 trailer with a 2010 unit. But the Kubota engin is a 2011 so I'm good till the end of 2018. You also have to register your trailer and unit with CARB. (California Air Resource Board) You can do it online.

I think that DPF trucks are good until 2022. I looked into this before I bought mine which is 2009 with a 2008 engine with a dpf only, no def, unless something changed since then. It used to have that Clean Idle sticker and I was able to get a drayage sticker as well.

Don't you have to have certified tires and skirts on the trailer too? Lol

Just try and stay to the right while doing 53mph and being paid by the hour.

skirts on a trailer, once I heard, were mandatory there.

So they can't come up to the truck and start looking on their own? I can tell them they can't? I just make it a habit to not stop in CA unless I really need to.

    horsecrazychic22 and Bakerman Thank this.

In other words you run at your own risk or get compliant.

A lot of the CARB compliance effort is through shippers. Which is why shippers ask for proof that the units are compliant.

After all, if you have a piece of paper, everything is A-OK!

I have never had a shipper ask if my equipment is compliant. I don't think they even look anything other than the condition of the inside of the trailer.

I recently got a new reefer and haven't registered it yet with CARB to get my numbers for the side panels of the unit. Have been in and out of Cali a handful of times already, no one seems to care. My old trailer was registered but I never displayed the number on the sides. Nobody ever asked. It's a joke.

They are the ones that said they want me to go down there. They have the trailers, I have the truck. So I'm just trying to figure it all out. =)
Their trailers are mostly newer models, and other drivers run them down to Cali, with their new trucks.
