I took my truck in to the dealer to have some electrical issues fixed (Some I was posting on here about)… I finally gave up on trying troubleshooting myself and I asked them to give my truck an inspection while its in.

They came back with a laundry list of items. Some that I’m questioning because their cost is pretty expensive

Looking for a little advice. Mainly wondering if the price I’m being quoted sounds normal. I’m going to be taking the truck to Texas in a little over a week so I don’t have a lot of time to get other quotes. I might have time to knock out a few repairs myself but some of the really time consuming stuff I’ll leave to the shop.

    1) How difficult is it to replace torque arms? The shop wants $1762 to replace 4 torque arms. I found parts online for $400 less than they quoted. They want $711 in labor.

    2) Is it true that a shop won’t repair Steering U joints or a steering shaft? Honestly my steering isn't terrible compared to other trucks I've drove but the joints are worn. They are recommending that I replace my entire steering shaft which is $1020

    3) They recommend replacing the kingpins… Might let them do that… Looks like a pain. They want $1366 ($853 labor and $513.66 in parts)

    4) Other misc stuff is like $250 for one side of my flat glass replacement, $90 to fix a leaking air line, and $237 to troubleshoot my ABS light

Where you located OldRed, maybe someone can recommend a shop around you. I have had most of the work done your talking about but its been several years and can't remember how much thy cost. Might just get what rely needs done now and search for a good shop for the rest of it later.

Thanks Tnevin225! I live in Colorado Springs CO. About an hour from Denver. A good shop is hard to come by sometimes. Thats why I usually do my own work. Most shops tend to make every minor issue seem like you must repair it ASAP.

This total bill is like $8,000 for troubleshooting electrical, misc little stuff, and the big items mentioned above.

AG suspension torque arms? That sounds high in labour unless they plan on an alignment too.

Yes I believe they are the suspension torque arms. Their quote doesn't mention alignment. I will have to ask

Torque arms are fairly easy. Hardest part is breaking the bolts loose.

I would buy the u-joints and do them myself.

Yeah I would let them do the kingpins

Glass and air line are way too high. Just replaced the passenger side for $160 on my truck a week ago and they came to me. Glass is only like $40-45. $90 to fix an airline that they will use a push connector on? They can lick my boots.

You need to find a mechanic in the sticks, an ole wrench turner to do this kind of stuff for you

Yea 8K seems a little high when you add it all up. Are you at MHC? I jumped on google maps and I see what you mean about shops, the only one that stood out to me was Colorado truck repair. Good Luck sorry I couldn't be more help.

I didn't want to share the shop name. Just didn't want to post bad information about them because they have been good to me. Despite shop costs being really expensive. Their parts counter is awesome too.

I went down and looked at the torque arms... they are on the rear. Actually looks easy. I have an impact gun and large compressor.. don't know if I'm missing something. Not sure how this is a $1700 repair

Those torque arms are fairly easy. The way my luck is all but one bolt will slide right in. For the last one you may have to play with the leveling valve or jack up one side of a axle.

That's what I mean. How can they justify like 5 hours labour to do that?
