    Hey all,

I'm dealing with Budget rentals right now. We had one truck that had a DEF system fault, so they had to provide us with another truck. This replacement truck is proving to be a bit of a nightmare. It's a Ford F750 with a 26' box. Here's a rundown of the issues I've got right now --

    - Mismatched tires on the steering. Different brands, different treading. It's causing a whole bunch of vibrations at around 60mph.
    - The headlights are no better than taping a 99 cent flashlight to the hood and calling it a day
    - The windshield wipers don't actually wipe the windshield
    - The "Service Engine Soon" indicator keeps lighting up
    - The beam that secures the box to the frame of the truck is cracked in half (as seen in the attached photo)
    - The "technician" that Budget sent out told me "Drive it until it breaks down, then Budget will have to tow you. Next time rent Penske."

Knowing all of this, would you consider this truck safe to drive?

I feel like I should also note that the "technician" Budget sent also said there's no record of a service history on the truck, only a basic inspection. The truck is at 51,000 miles and it looks like it might have never seen a regular service interval.

If i ever need a rent a box truck, I'm scratching budget rentals off the list, no I don't think it's up to par.

I wish it were that easy when I'm 550 miles away from where we got it from.

Isn't there is a customer service hotline that you can call to tell them to send a truck out to you and this one won't work.

I would also call them in the morning and really complain to them about the mechanic, telling you to drive an unsafe truck because their rentals are crap and he recommended another company instead of fixing it.

Can you stop at Budget Rentals and at least swap trucks? That crack isn't going to work, I'd say stop at weigh station and ask for an inspection but you might oos, budget may need to bring one out to you that'll pass inspection.

This would be the best approach.

Refuse to drive it until if you can

Wait till daylight and call budget first. Tell them the truck you have is unserviceable. If they won't send a truck to you go directly to the nearest open scale and pull around back and request an inspection from dot. Then budget will have to send a replacement and a tow truck. And last thing is always pretrip truck before signing for it. I've had to refuse trucks in the past from both Penske and budget in the past.
