Okay so I have a question I got a job offer in Nevada and I'm a California. They said they will need me to get a Nevada driver's license. Would I have to retake all the tests for my class A and do a driving test since I'm getting a Nevada license or how does that work. Thanks for all the information in advance

Normally you just go to the DMV with proof of your new address, and transfer the cdl over.
I've never had a skills test requirement moving to another state.Riffman and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
Google search works..

Commercial Driver Licenses
try calling them too.brian991219 Thanks this. -
Depends on the state. Probably just a basic CDL written exam, no road test.

Yup. Each state is different. Some hand you the new license when you surrender the old. Some states want you to take the written tests. A few states really discourage truckers from moving in because they require both the written AND skills tests. Best bet is to contact the state you're moving to and find out what they require.

Thanks for all the response's guys I really appreciate it.

Hazmat will probably not transfer. If you have haz and want to keep it you will have to do the whole fingerprinting, background check and pass the written test again.

Are you moving to Nevada?
If not, then there is no reason why you need to change your license.
I was going to work down in Texas and they told me that, I told them that my residency is here in Michigan, not Texas and that handed me some bs about being a state law where it isn't. I wasn't going to be a resident of Texas and going to work interstate so the law doesn't apply. This was later confirmed by my lawyer who said the residency dictates the license, not the job.
This is why th cdl is really a uniformed licensing system.
