On the way to deliver in Laredo tonight I noticed one of our dim bulbs managed to get a flatbedder Cascadia and a stepdeck impounded by the Border Patrol. Driver gets to go to jail, possibly Federal prison, and the truck and trailer go to the auction. Whoopsie!!!
FrankFerrissWheel Thanks this. -
Just south of Nashville, spending teh night at mom's since I can't deliver in Portland until Monday morning. Mo' bourbon!!

Hello everyone. Home sweet home right now. It has been one heck of a week. Last Wednesday all of a sudden the tranny starts to act up so pull into a truck stop and wait it out. The next morning, all is well so off I go. About 600 miles later, the same problems start. Wants to jump out of gear and then rpm up to 2400 to go back into 2nd. The whole time that this happens, when in a back up and pulling a hill. So get it to KW in Dallas. Sit there for about 30 hours and they say that it is done, just software updates. I should have known better when the truck never left the triage bay. Leave out Friday and head down to Cleburne. All is well, Then on the way back up, it all starts again and this time, it was not going into gear at all. The same symptoms and this time, towed in. Get tow to KW in Ft Worth and they pull up the last repair order and told me, Dallas never even really looked at it. They are saying probably a new tranny or clutch. Seaboard is pissed and I know that they had some words with Dallas. I found out that Seaboard carries a big stick with MHC. Well, they got me a rental truck, no charge to me, they are paying for it and I have a feeling that the bill will be going back to MHC in Dallas. A 2017 Cascadia.

Software updates don't fix problems that just pop up out of nowhere. Updates are for fixing pre-existing conditions or adding some additional functionality.

Yuma, AZ at the Love's.
Nice and hot down here, just as it was in Phoenix. At 0040 it is still 87 degrees.
I delivered a load here at 1100, then went to pick up the next one.
It is a short load of 220 miles into CA, and it doesn't deliver until the 5th (day after tomorrow).
I guess I could have turned it down for too much time on the load, but then I may have sat here until the 5th with no layover pay. How much actually goes out of Yuma, especially during a holiday weekend?
On the plus side, it lets me get some hours back on my 70 from recap hours so I am more likely to get a longer load.
Another plus is that it helps with my idle time.
Getting it ever higher, that is.
If more drivers would help in getting the idle times sky high it might help Swift decide to install APU's.FerrissWheel Thanks this. -
It's cheaper to idle ... the break even is about 6 hours of idling a day, for 365 days, over 3 years.
Factor in up time on the truck and APU maintenance, the payback is longer than the life cycle of the truck.Last edited: Jul 4, 2017
FerrissWheel and Moosetek13 Thank this. -
On the road again.
Sitting in Kingman, delivering in Phoenix with lumber and then taking promasters too Anahiem. Supposed to head east afterwards.
My philosophy has always been, "don't want me to idle, keep me moving." Which they are admittedly good at as of late. We finally have a full time planner and fleet manager in the Phoenix flat fleet again and things are running like a well oiled machine again.
Make me wonder what they did. I've dealt with the boarder stations more and more, and generally they leave us alone unless the driver does something stupid. Cause I do the back roads between Ft Stockton and Laredo alot. They generally don't even want to look at us.
