Save your back; go with Watkins-Shepard.
austinmike, Texas_hwy_287 and Puppage Thank this. -
Thanks I was leaning towards themaustinmike and Chinatown Thank this.
-
Probably have decent hometime with Watkins-Shepard also, since they do dedicated accounts.
-
Actually their so called dedicated runs are only that way if ur dispatched out of the home terminal. If ur dispatched out of Missoula forget it! U get lumped in with the rest of Otr so getting home every week is a fight. To get home time you'd want the ltl or local routes.
-
Not necessarily. If he gets a bulk position, it will be mostly unloading pallets with an electric pallet jack. Plus once you run your route you re done
-
coke all the way in two years you may end up with a bulk position and its not like back in the day every one gets a mini 28ft trailer with an electric jack in chicago except for downtown chicago
-
That's actually not true. Believe it or not, there's very few back injuries in that industry. It's mostly shoulders, hands, feet-that sort of thing. Back is actually the least injured part of the body, in terms of time lost due to injry, in that industry.
Still, your point is valid- those sideloaders take a toll on your body.
It's also true that bulk is pretty much just unload with an electric pallet jack. But the plants that a driver would see bulk at within a few years are few and far between. Most of those jobs go to the guys that have been there 15-20 years. -
just starting he won't. Coca cola is getting rid of the sideloaders and getting 35' trailers with liftgates. Stops are put on pallets or in these racks on wheels. Not sure if the whole country has done it yet.

Apply for Coke and see what happens OP..
I was basically fresh out of school and got hired to run bulk..
I will say this, it was definitely challenging my first year..
