Werner isn't hiring trainees right now. Trust me on this. You will get in the trainer truck, you will finish your hours, and then you will wait till they find one of their now limited trucks to be empty. This can be a long wait.

I love Werner, but I want to save you the down time.

There is defiantly no longer a driver shortage, now its a freight one. :biggrin_2553:

Hey IROC thanks for the heads up unfortunatly they are pretty close to me and I already told em I would show up and even though they could care less I am a man of my word and dont like to back down from anything I promise (not sure if thats good or bad)....I had heard about them slowing down on hiring and possibly having to wait for a truck do you have any idea how long that wait is??? I appreciate it and I actually am experienced but they are making do a refresher course cause I havent driven in 2 years but guess that means I am like any other trainee right now huh LOL, thanks for the heads up and be safe out there

Basically they have reduced the trucks on the road, we are hard up for freight right now. They are doing what they can to get miles out, by splitting loads repeatedly to allow several drivers to get 300 miles instead of one to get 1200.

I would guess ball park you are looking at a 2 - 4 week truck wait, basically they are not putting NEW trucks out. And are only recycling trucks when a driver quits, countary to popular belief they don't have thousand a day quitting so what you are basically waiting for is a driver to quit and his truck to get cycled through the reassign. Which you may not wait as long for as most drivers then to bail on the first sign of problems and freight this last 2 weeks was VERY soft, so I imagine alot of people are thinking of running off. Course the freight is soft everywhere that will get them no better off unless they run to another industry but hey, their mistake would be your gain in this case.

I would suggest you go head and take the first truck they offer even if its a reclaim that you have to recover. If you really hate it just deal with it until freight goes back up then takes a Leave of Absence (try timing it with a time you wanted to be at home anyway for home time so it won't hurt the pocket book). They will take the truck back and when you return assign you another where you might have better luck. In fact if you get in with you dispatcher good you can take the leave, tell him your come back date, and about what you are looking for in a truck and he can have them set you up for one the same day you are coming back which is helpful.

Thanks and I agree I have noticed with the other companies that drivers tend to bail at the first sign of low miles. Yeah I dont mind going to get a reclaimed truck cause sometimes you get lucky and get some stuff left behind so it might save me some money LOL just trying to stay positive cause I need an inverter and CB.....Well thank you very much for the info I appreciate it....

i've heard from my student's sdm that they are actually sending students home without pay to wait for a ready truck (my guess is partly to make room for new students), and the one's who do stay on with trainers no longer get paid extra to do so... so pick your poison i guess. werner may have a lower turnover right now, but that is of no doing by the company. people are just too afraid to quit.

His trainer runs a dedicated route from Woodland to Portland, then they have to wait 18 hours on either end. At that rate, he will be training forever!

My husband and I are considering becoming trainers and separating from teaming to maximize our earning potential. Slowly I am seeing if we do that we might end up hand picking our trainees from the forums here lol!

you should stop at the trucking schools in dallas and recruit there. you get the bonus, and you can pick who you train...
