i havnt crunched the numbers and i know there different in every situation but im trying to figure out how dealing with an apu on a used trk is even worth it, if u were only keeping the trk for a few yrs how is it worth the money and time put into installing an apu, then money to repair it and the revenue lost waiting to get it repaired. it just seems that u see many owners and company drivers talking about there apus always having problems. Yes i know there are idle laws but at the moment they dont seem to be enforced in areas i run.

i guess the next question would be how much does having a apu on a used trk affect the trade in value. when i say used i mean 700k miles and above
-
Two things
First is comfort, second is if your business plan cuts things so close the only way you can make it work is by skipping the apu maybe you need a better plan.Terry270, sawmill, againstthewind and 4 others Thank this. -
Mine was on the truck when I bought it. I guess I didn't realize how much I would appreciate one until after owning the truck for awhile. Very handy, especially in the winter if the truck sits for awhile with no power source near by.

I recommend a refurbished one. Thermoking King St Louis can do it for 6300 fully installed. Calculate how much fuel you will burn a year idling and compare that with the APU. If the cost of getting one vs not having it is equal to or less then get it. APUs have a quick ROI.

I got a used Carrier with only 1100 hours on it. Installed for $5500. Haven't had any trouble with it at all. I did put a set of belts on it and change the oil every 500 hours. No way I would want to go without it.

Hello. Where did you get your carrier from?

From Carrier Transicold in Salt Lake Cityjust g p Thanks this.

Another consideration besides just fuel cost is how much engine life are you idling away sitting around keeping warm or cool? I figured that you idle away at least 10,000 miles worth of engine life in a year and maybe more than that. So in three years that's 30,000 miles. Let's say that those miles are worth a $1.50 each... (mine are worth a lot more than that) that's $45,000. So the Apu cost $10,000 in that time. Add in fuel savings and you should come out looking pretty good in the long run.
