It may be a road to destruction for some owner ops, but none that I work with. If a company has for example 300-400 owner ops and many are on their 2nd or third rig and most are content, it can't be all bad.
I realize many people preach gloom and doom, but take it with a grain of salt.
I have several friends with your fine company and I know that $1,800-$2,4000 a week is doable working 55-70 hours for Moore. One reason I am happy as an owner op is that I don't ever have a phone call on sat telling me I better come load or I will be in the principals office on Monday.
They do tell me when they need help on Saturday because I asked them to tell me. I will always pull a load when they need the help.
Let me say that I nor any Hansen owner ops that I talk to will be selling our rigs to take a company job any time soon. Most of the owner ops here that I know have been owner ops many years, 15-20 plus and they usually know how to make a buck. Many of them are former Teamster owner ops and or drivers and do you think a former Teamster would stay anyplace that sucked! I am a rookie owner op, former Teamster with 30 plus years of building wealth in trucking but somehow I have stumbled upon $150,000-$200,000 net and I don't work near as hard as some.
The guys that go out and buy a 15 year old rig for 50,000 and get their freight off load boards where their competition is every red neck in America with a pickup and a trailer, those are the owner ops who may not make money hauling cars, but that is not the class of owner ops I work with.

I have to say it'll matter where you live and run. Those guys in the north east can run independent from auctions and load boards but I guy from Minnesota might be better suited leasing on. -
Yes I agree, I am not discounting anyones business model because there are some people who wouldn't haul anything but used. I just can't understand when someone makes a blanket statement about anything. Life is not a one size fits all approach and neither is business.Kawinige01, BigBob410 and jbelles Thank this.

Maybe this should be a topic because yesterday I had some damage and another driver said that sucks when you have to pay for that, and I said WHAt ? He said yeah all companies make the driver pay for damages, if it's expensive they do weekly deductions. I said I could understand if I you dumb #### they write you up or fire you but seriously I never had damage deducted from my pay and would quit if they ever did. I work for a small 3 truck outfit but it just doesn't sound right ??? And if they do charge drivers if a tire blows and damages a car or as happened to me recently I was parked and off duty another truck backed into me $8000 damage to car on head rack . I don't see how they could charge you for something like that when I always thought off duty means no responsibility to the truck ?

I work for Moore transport. They give us a $3,000 damage incentive bonus. Any damages that we incur are deducted from that $3,000. Whatever you have left at the end of the year goes in your pocket. So if you have no damages you get to keep the entire $3,000 at the end of the year. If you have damages Beyond $3,000 then it starts to come out of your pocket. Insurance companies pay for a certain amount of it. If you continue to have damages beyond the $3,000 it could result in you having to find another job.
