I am an L/P at KLLM. I make a good wage, but I am also on a dedicated route. The only way you will make it at KLLM is by getting in good with a Load Planner. Mostly by delivering on time and not refusing loads. I have done OTR, SE Regional, and now dedicated. It really doesn't matter where you go, this is a cut throat business when you get involved with L/P with these "Beginner Companies". Luckily this is the only company I have ever worked for, and that has been 5 years. I have had a successful lease the entire time I was there. I feel I do a good job and make really good money, but I am always looking for a better opportunity. I am not one of those drivers that is here crying about L/P being a scam. You have to look at it this way, you are paying for an already paid off truck. I call it a long term rental program. The only reason I am a L/P driver is simply to have the free reign and to make more money. I am a firm believer that if I am going to be out here, I want to make as much as possible. One benefit to not having a variable lease is that you don't have extra money going towards the truck. This is good if you're like myself and trying to support a family. If you're single, then the variable lease might be better for you. You will pay more towards paying off the truck during high mile weeks and you will pay the truck off faster. I am always looking for new opportunities, cause it comes down to fighting for good loads EVERY SINGLE WEEK. And it gets old real fast.
If you or anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. The main reason I am with this company still is that they are the only ones that go into Florida and I am home at least once a week and get to see my family!!

Yeah the big deal with LP is if you go home for three days, you got 4 left that week to make a buck or else you go in the hole, and load planners have it down to a science, screw up a load and they will make you want to quit.
This 'everything is covered by warranty' raises the question, if I dont like a steer tire brand, can i change it or do i have to 'ask permission' and get the truck to a terminal and wait in a long line instead the handy TA I might be doing a ridiculous 34 at.
1.07 a mile, cheap freight but you get a truck at the end of the deal no money down. Used truck? If you get a truck poorly maintained (drv not adj brk slack, tire pressure, chg oil, high idle DEF problems) you might need a cab home after the tow trk to a shop if the head cracks.
LP we could use bi-weekly or once a month payment plans, fighting deadhead and 70hr rules is not always easy. Governed trucks, and radars, maybe for six month newbie, but really a pain as in slower driving, possible long term abs issues or another wire harness to worry about.
Radar not good on slick down hill mtns, 50% brake if car decides to stop might be end of it all. -

Beautiful. I hope you like Memphis. There is work there to be done. I give you one word McKesson.
You appear to be a truck owner. Things a little bit different for a truck owner to pick and choose a profitable company to lease on to.
Im just a old ordinary employee I know nothing about the lease side. -
I worked for FFE which I thinkw as purchased by KLLM.
This post is so spot on. I am overjoyed to read this.
Many people in Lancaster lay around the drivers room all day as in from sunrise until past sunset. Dispatcher calls em upstairs to get a load to chicago due at 8 am tomorrow morning. Since they have caurosed and fellowshipped with their friends and buddies all day for more hours than anyone cared to count, they are suddently too tired to do Chicago by morning (It's only 650 miles....) And turn it down.
These are the same people who complain that their wages are low. Well duh, it's low because you turn down freight.
My stragety? Stock up on all current forms. Something like 200 of each, 500 of interchange ticket blanks etc. and GO away from Lancaster for 6 months to a year. I am usually happy never to see Lancaster all year because I stay busy with the spouse.
Even if I did go to Lancaster, They give me 5 to 7 tractors to recover from around town all day long at 30 dollars per. There is a fringe benefit to recovering tractors. Reading piles and piles of profanity laced whining and tears from drivers who accused Dispatcher who is in the process of firing same all kinds of sob stories about how old yellar is going to bite the bullet if such and such does not get home like today.
I don't know about you but I enjoy making 200 dollars per day cash on top of my regular salary thanks to the weak cry babies who quit after laying around the yard all day getting madder about stuff that really does not have a bearing on the work to be done.smokey12 Thanks this. -
No I am a company driver for over a year now..never turned down a load and run as much as I can with no incidents so far. No I can't stand Memphis but go there when I have to of course..does KLLM go there often?. As stated above I am out here to make $$ and want to make as much as I can but I do like to go home when I choose for a limited amount of time. As of now, KLLM is still on the top of my list if I choose to go this route. I usually stay out a month then go home.5-6 days.

Why do so many drivers dislike or hate going to Memphis Tennessee?
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -
Truck stops there are not the safest..I was there a few weeks ago and did enjoy parking at a receiver
MidwestResident Thanks this.
