How does one get their own base plates and IFTA? I understand from the state IRP office but if a truck is leased on to a company out of Maryland that's based in Jersey who's current base plates are in Illinois and the owner operator is domiciled in Florida; how does it work? That's four different states involved!

You can get your own plates out of Florida, that way you keep them if you ever change companies.flood, JimmyWells and cnsper Thank this. -
I'm curious about registering a truck in a state you don't live in... Nj is killing me with 1500 per truck
JimmyWells Thanks this. -
If you want your own plates just contact your dmv office and get them that way. Also you van setup your own Ifta in your own state. It's done online and they send you ifta stickers. State of your residence and carriers state don't matter. It's better to get your own plates if you decide to leave carrier.

I'm running theirs now but I would like to get my own so it looks I'll have to do Florida. How come the company I'm leased to is NJ based but has Illinois base plates?
-
If you do this, you need tyo keerp a higherr percentage as you are takingnon some of t he workload filing your own ifta.
