I'd take hwy 126, hit I-5, pull the grapevine and get off at 580 or 152 depending on what part of the bay area you are going to. Don't hit 580 at commute time cause its a real PITA.

Us 199 in ca at the northern tip is no walk in the park either. On ca website it is listed as not recommended but not restricted. There are signs on it saying 65' max if you drive it. Which law is higher? Website or sign on road? I did it when going to mckinleyville for a delivery one time, and went out the same way because there is a 65' restriction south of mckinlayville as per website.

Thanks, my overall length is 68 and 9 inches , and there no way to cut that 3 feet,so that means I'm illegal ✌️[/QUOTE]Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Let me know how the running is through that section around I think Leggett? On 101 ...

The PCR (Pacific Coast Road) is nice but not that nice.
Medford Scales is pretty nice as far as welcome scales go. Just be sure you have that Oregon Red Tag on your rig.rearview and alexchalyi Thank this. -

The reason I asked and figured I had a decent defense would be this.
101 is restricted per the attached file near Leggett ca for a short duration. The rest of 199 is not length restricted. 199 is "not advised" -and- when driving 199 signs in ca say no trucks over 65'. On white with black letters; not those yellow not recommended signs. Which is correct? The road signs or the internet map? Is route 101 worse than 199? Can someone local to the area advise? If you came in on 199 and your next pickup was salinas for example, after going through 199 and seeing those signs what do you do now, disobey the signs and take 199 back to 5 or do you disobey the internet map and go south on 101?Attached Files:

Road signs trump all. Obey road signs always. That's what your friendly LEO will use to offer you an award.
Even if you are pulling an oversized load and get a specific route on your permits and provisions, they always say you have to follow any signs with restrictions. You have to follow the route on the permit, BUT the state absolves itself of liability by noting if they screwed up it's all on the trucker.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
If you run south on 101 from Brookings and think you can sneak a 53' trailer through the length restricted area near Richardson Grove...think again.
Every CHP from Garberville to Laytonville knows exactly what to look for and your odds of getting through without getting caught are slim to none.
You'd need most of the road, both lanes...narrow and winding...at Richardson's Grove. The locals take great delight in calling in overlength trucks.
Also, if you have a 53' trailer, don't even think about Hwy 36 from Fortuna to Red Bluff. -
Don't get yourself in a pickle like that and try to take a length restricted road. Sure, you might make it unscathed. But the liability for getting stuck and blocking the road or getting in a collision is very very real.
