Doing ltl looking for a change

Who do work for? What do you haul now?

 

That's cool no problem, ltl is somtimes gets very old. I know a few more guy's say there ready to bale!

No kidding! You and everyone else! It's really kind of funny, we see posts all the time from OTR or regional drivers wanting to come off the road to go local. And we see lots of posts from local drivers wanting to get out on the road.
As far as the job is concerned, the physical work you are doing is probably pretty intense. Not as much as food service, or beverage, but it's still hard work.
Personally, I wanted out of the road. Went local P & D for several years. I almost went back to road work again, but decided it was time to just pull the plug.
Have you looked at the possibility of line haul with the outfit you are with? Like anything else, it's got good and bad. But at least you don't have to see the same anal aperture customers every day.
I noticed you are in NY. I'm in SW Utah. Small metro area, and for most of my time with P& D I'd run city in the morning, and rural in the afternoon.
I'd also hook to all different sizes boxes, and the occasional set. I really did enjoy the variety, but clumsy oaf that I am, kept getting hurt. That's what really made me decide to retire.
Have you looked at running regional? Won't be home every night, but it keeps you near enough the house that you should be able to sleep in your own bed a few times a week.
Being well land locked here, I never considered containers. But from what I see here, it's not exactly a wonderful job.

The better companies are getting worse. They are starting to micromanage like a mofo cause of what they are now paying. My buddy works linehaul for Saia and is constantly getting pulled in the office for drive cam. They say it only records once and awhile but he's getting pulled in when he knows he didn't set it off. He's so paranoid he doesn't talk on Bluetooth cell phone cause technically it's fire able. I can't work for a company where you can't talk on the phone hands free. At Reddaway linehaul guys talk each other all night on the phone to keep awake. Plus it makes friendships.
Reason why Reddaway guys are close net group at the big terminals. You don't really see much of that at other LTL's cause everyone is scared to talk on the cell phone. Other companies are going above what is legal and making it their own law. Which is a big turn off for me. No cell phone hands free policy I don't apply.
