I dont feel like I am in complete control of a truck with an auto anyway. I dont care what anyone says I dont think they should be autos. Give me a 13 or 18 if I am hauling heavy. Anything else blows.
Mudguppy, QuietStorm and haz-matguru Thank this. -

Quest Global will probably let you train the wife. They run hard doing California turns.
Abilene Motor Express runs teams to California and trucks run 72 mph.
Titan Transfer runs west coast and trucks run 70 mph.
TWT Refrigerated Service pays teams $.60 cpm split.
Old Dominion hires new cdl grads and teams can make $225K per year.
Danny Herman Trucking runs teams to southern California and usually stay below I-40; no Northeast.
Freymiller hires teams and hires new cdl grads & drivers with less than 6 mos experience for their training program. Since you have experience, you can probably be her trainer.
Celadon pays teams $.60 cpm.
As for the transmission, it's hard to keep up with which companies still have manuals. They're switching to autos, except for specialized companies such as heavy haul, etc.
That's your call though, but I sure wouldn't turn down a good paying job over that. -
The tanker company I worked for switched to automatics. Ran 48 states and Canada and using that automatic was the best driving experience I've ever had in my whole career. I drove, pulling tankers on snowy, wintry roads, mountains, all terrain and it was a dream. Not nearly as tired at the end of the driving day and more relaxed driving all day. Trucking companies are switching to autos because fuel economy is much better.DMH2281 and viper822004 Thank this.

Tempus Transport is a fairly new "expedited" truck company here in Ohio, and ONLY runs teams. I don't know much about them, did a little research for a buddy of mine a while back, though. May be worth looking into;
Best of luck. -
If autos saved fuel then they would have been used industry wide 20yrs ago. There is no auto that would get better mpg than a 18spd. Unless there is a 20 spd auto. And I've haven't seen an auto with that many gears
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I can't see an auto pulling a tanker better than an 18 myself, either. Then again, never tried.

Thanks for saying that.. I have shifted gears for 26 years. Love my auto... guess I'm getting older. This childlike mentality that driving a automatic truck isn't being a real driver is funny at best every time I hear it. I have shifted more gears by accident then most out here anymore have on purpose . I hope not to ever shift another one.viper822004 Thanks this.
