I know what you meant, guess just running my mouth for no reason like a truck driver, lol. And your going about it the right way. I pulled into a Petro one night after bout 5 truck stops before hand as well with no spots. The Petro had one spot, an oversize on the passenger side and regular rig on the driver's side. It looked to small of a space and after each isle with no other spots, I pulled back around and got my tape measure out and it was 8 ft 7 inches between the od load and the trailer on the other side. It took about 25 minutes and about 10 goals to wiggle into. Point is, some road test limit the pull ups and goals you get. In the real world, only 2 goals that have to get accomplished. 1 get into the spot and 2 don't hit anything. Doesn't matter what you have to do to accomplish those. Backing takes practice and lots of it. Nobody in the entire trucking industry ever crawled into a truck for the first time and backed it into a spot perfect. All it takes is a calm mind frame with the mindset to watch and learn from every turn of the steering wheel.
My gf wants to get her CDL and only wants to deal with me.
