I drove for Lonestar but had to resign for family matters.
From driving day 1 to time off, I was out 4 weeks. They want 3 but will let you stay out as long as you want.
At my 90 day mark I was assigned an rgn pulling wind tower hubs. At 6 months you can start pulling wind blades.
Make no mistake, you will drive for 3-5 years before you are level 5 (haul anything) but the freight is rarely the same. Very little general freight and ALOT of preloaded trailers.
Its a company policy that the driver cannot be called by office staff while driving or on sleeper berth. Road facing camera only, no safety ####, rand mcnally elog, 8 spd kw 660 midroof or the occasional pete. Nearly a dozen yards throughout the US with access to other daseke yards. Pay was on lowside when I drove but they were upping it when I left.
Its a refreshing company driver company and I would go back in a heart beat.

Out of curiosity, but was it known to everyone why 2/3rds of your class were sent home? I'm asking because Melton is the company I'm most interested in applying to after CDL school. Thanks!

off the top of my head —
Some couldn’t safely drive. Some couldn’t or wouldn’t lift 80 pound tarps from the ground to trailer height. Some weren’t cut out for flatbed work (which you will do a bit of in orientation). Some failed the drug tests. Some couldn’t pass the Melton physical.
by the end of the week, you might have 7-10 drivers left after 40 started on Monday. Of that 10, 2 won’t get their own truck after two weeks with the trainer, the remaining 8…. 6 will leave Melton within the first 6 months. 1 of the 2 remaining before the first year. That final driver might make it to 3 years, but probably won’t.Bizzarrogeorge and beastr123 Thank this. -
Wow! That kind of attrition rate rivals Army Green Berets! Thank you for the feedback on your experience with Melton!

Don’t believe everything you here, I was there close to 4 years. Had to leave for family reasons. Still 3 from my class that I talk to there. If I wouldn’t have stumbled onto a sweet Mon-Fri flat job I’d go back. Most new drivers already have it in there mind to switch jobs at 6 months to a year.beastr123 and Bizzarrogeorge Thank this.
