If you can swing a deal on this truck you can buy a kit.
Get one with a Detroit, make sure it was built with only genuine Detroit parts, except turbo, get a BW turbo and never look back.
That w9 will eat you alive.you start putting team miles on that truck and you will lose your ***.

I wouldn't rule out a good deal on a truck with DEF entirely, considering there are plenty of trucks equipped with it that are running fine.

If you're already over the road, you can try to check for trucks along your route. We flew out to check out the truck we bought. We figured if the truck was good, we'd take 2 days and drive it back. If it wasn't, we'd run around and check more dealers or just relax and fly back later.

    Hi loudtom,
I do see your point. It's just that in my personal experience, in brand new KW T680's the big weakness was that DEF. When that Regen starts happening.... oye!
Considering the fact you can go into California with a pre-emissions engine, if given the choice, I would make the choice for pre-emissions. But it comes down to having the choice! :) We're not totally closed minded on this point though... thanks for your post!

Wasn't this asked before in another thread?

To the OP, this is too much money for a truck this old - PERIOD.

It is only worth $15k tops.

Yes you can take a pre emissions truck into cali only if you don't get caught. It has to be a 2008 or newer to be legal.

I really appreciate everyone for posting on this thread. Your answers influenced our decision not to put any more effort into this truck. We spoke with the seller - who's dearly in love with his truck, which I understand - and gracefully bowed out of it. He wouldn't budge... and we wouldn't budge. Thank you all for your help!
