I'm getting ready to retire from the (construction) Teamsters on a 80 and out. Am I Crazy for even thinking of going back out there? I used to run for TRISM. Ended up on a boom truck for almost ten years...For the past six years Iv'e been at a nuclear waste cleanup site in eastern washington hauling contaminated dirt (to easy)..... tired of getting laid off, worrying about my job and worse yet the back stabbing, (and to be politically correct) The kissing up the the boss..if your not related or one of the boys and or kissing the boss your out.. Anyway.. I've been on a Class B truck for the past 6 years (for the most part) and all of my OTR experience has done expired. am I crazy but I do miss it.. I was thinking of seeing if ATS has a training program if not who?... My wife will probably divorce me so I may need a good attorney to.
Am I Crazy?

No, you're not crazy for wanting to go back out.
I, too wanted back in a truck after 10 years as a mechanic. I started applying to companies in January. I just got a local job driving gasoline last month. I've done it before, but this sector was my "last resort" choice to get back in a truck. Having said that, I'm very glad to be back in the saddle.
I had 19 straight rejections, including the companies that wouldn't return my calls.
I was along in the process with Schneider, but the interview was terminated halfway through by the interviewer, because I had a traffic conviction in my POV a year ago, and she said it had to be five years old. This was not news to them, I put it on my application, and they pulled this bs on me anyway. I didn't want to work for any of the TRUE bottom feeders, and didn't apply.
So, here I am, regional gas driver, and if I want to, in a year, I could call back some of the tanker companies and see if they will hire me OTR. Some outfits just wanted to see three months current class A.
A lot has changed out here, but at least the place I work runs 10 speed trucks and no driver cams. I'm putting 11 to 14 hours in a day, but I get paid hourly for all of it, and paid well. Good luck.Puppage, LoudOne and NavigatorWife Thank this. -

Crazy, or not crazy. Guess it depends on what your wife is like.
I don't think you are crazy for wanting to get back out there. I've felt the "call of the road," many times, both when doing LTL local, and since retirement.
Just know that it isn't going to be like it was.MACK E-6, homeskillet and passingthru69 Thank this. -
That's what I hear.. it is so different ,, gone are most of the restaurants at truck stops replaced by burger king or what ever.. I'm way older now (61).. but if I get laid off due to cut backs there isn't a lot I can do. They are still watching all the time due to cab cam. My wife is a sweet hart most the time... the only way I've ever made money is to run 48 and stay out there.. I don't know if i'm willing to do that any more, if I have to I will... It's better that loosing everything.Big Don and homeskillet Thank this.

I don't think I'd mind doing a laydown run once in a while for a change of pace, but all the time would be too much.
