If you are going to quit, then quit. Don't be quitting after the company put you in a hotel for an extra week.
Also, have you talked to the shop? What is the ETA on the truck? Who knows, if you actually communicate with your company you might find out the truck will be ready tomorrow...

Also, don't care how desperate one is, a 1099 is always a bad idea (unless one is actually an IC, which is rare in this industry) Heck, Swift, Werner, etc.are all better than the average 1099 "employer" and they also start every Monday for orientation.

 

Driver, you don't need to burn that bridge. Be a man and call someone at your current employer, explain that you have obligations that you can't meet, and that you have an offer of employment waiting.
Remember, it's the beast you know.... verses the unknown.
Also, most 1099 folks jump at the slight increase of money, yet because they are behind to start with, they don't set aside the proper amount of money for taxes. Thus, they are starting off in a hole trying to catch up. Most of the time, that ends in BIG tax liabilities that you can't catch up from.

I spent 8 days in Fontana once. Truck had 300k miles and leaking fuel in to antifreeze.

To be honest. I think the shop was more lazy then actually working on the truck. Boss paid for 6 days motel. I paid for the other 2 due to the fact i didn't want to ride home with another truck just to turn around and ride back with another truck.

 

Depends on how long he 1099's for. I wouldn't do it long though. But that tax per diem can be a big help for that tax bill. It's always saved my bacon from actually having to pay. With the new fine for insurance.

Don't do it. You're responsible for your own taxes and medical insurance and you're screwing your retirement. AND unemployment if it ever came down to that. I only done the 1099 once. But i was a mechanic working for my buddy who owned his own shop. And i didn't stay long. Someone talked me in to getting my cdl. After 12 years. I had no desire to spend the rest of my life busting my knuckles while living with dirty finger nails and dirty, dry cracked skin. You wash your hands so many times that even the most advanced lotion won't lubricate your skin. At the end of that career. My hands were so dried and cracked they were bleeding.
