I will be 21 on the 18th of this month. As soon as I possibly can, I would like to get into a career with a trucking company that offers three things: Paid CDL training, passenger policy, and pet policy. I'd like to be able to take my woman along with me, at least sometimes maybe not every single trip. And when she comes along we have a dog that will need to come too.
Right now, my top choice for a company is Prime.
1. Would anybody here have anything (good or bad) to say about them to help my decision?
2. If its something bad, can you give me a better recommendation to fit my needs?
3. Ive read that they try to put solo drivers in the lightweight trucks as much as possible. I'm a very large man, 420lbs. so I don't like the sounds of being in a tight space. Especially with the old lady riding along. Is it possible to get a fullsize truck, possibly with a second bunk, without getting into a lease purchase deal?
4. Also, with being a large individual, I know I would have to get a sleep study done and I already know I have sleep apnea. Does anyone know how much the study will cost me? And how much the CPAP will cost?
5. How bad of an idea is it to get into a lease purchase? Would I be better off, or should I steer away from that?
6. Lastly, if I get a nationwide position with Prime, how likely is it that I would actually get to travel clear across the country? I really enjoy the idea of that, the only thing that bothers me is NY runs because that seems to be an experienced driver only type of thing.

If you insist on a Condo, Prime will provide that (last I've heard) especially if you are telling them you are intending to bring a rider.
Never worked there, all I know.
I hear they are a bit "choosy" as to whom they hire. Ask Rainy D. ( oops, wrong forum~!)

While they're also a bit choosey, look into Roehl. They offer paid CDL training and pay you $500 per week while in CDL school (Prime's is $200 per week, if I recall correctly, and it's a cash advance that will be paid back out of your first few paychecks with them). They have a pet policy (1 dog or cat up to 60 pounds, I believe Prime's is 40 pounds), and a passenger policy that come into play after 6 months solo. All of their company trucks are full size mid roof or condo sleepers.
Where you live typically determines which terminal you go to for CDL school, which in turn determines what type of trailer you'll pull (Roehl has dry van, refrigerated, and flatbed/specialized divisions).bigdavid1996 Thanks this. -

There is a pet deposit, as with most companies, but not sure exactly how much it is. -

Your major problem is the sleep apnea. www.rpmhst.com is a website to help you take control of that problem.
These companies hire 21 yrs. olds for their cdl school and have rider/pet policy:
