I think we all understand your concern and none of the drivers like to be treated like livestock but that's how this industry is like it or not.Companies are in business to male money them caring about drivers is at the very bottom of there list.

You really have me confused. Why are you concerned about money when something will be provided for free? Yes it seems like a waste but it is not you wasting it is the carrier. Not trying to pick a fight but your position makes me wonder what you are hiding. Only someone trying to hide something or trying to snooker someone will react to something provided free like you are doing so. I could see your point if you were being asked to pay for the new physical, but you are not! So why all the angst? Because from where I sit it makes absolutely NO sense!

Why? Because you HAVE a valid medical card, attached to your CDL at the state. Why subject yourself to the possibility of the company, in their quest for more money, are in cahoots with the doctor, sleep study facility, and cpap machine suppliers to force as many people as possible through these phony sleep studies (of which you get kickbacks) to diagnose them with a problem they didn't have so that you can finance the machine to them for 3x the fair market rate and keep them feeling obligated to continue working for your crappy company because they haven't finished paying off that "loan" .

Screw that. I'm healthy. I have a valid card. You either accept my valid card, or I don't work for you.

The why is simply if you tell a carrier that demands you to accept or I don't driver for you the carrier 99% of the time will say bye bye. Even if you can get by this time in 2 years max you are going to go through this same thing all over again. This sleep study/sleep lab incestuous relationship is not going away anytime soon. Also be advised the FMCSA is working up new sleep apnea guidelines. There has already been proposed rulemaking comments placed in the Federal Register. My main point is you can't escape this situation. At some point your going to be confronted with it. It is a lot like that old commercial you can pay me now or pay me later.

I am ON record about how much I hate what these clinics have done. Right now most of these fools are telling drivers it is the law. Don't put up with this. However in the case of a carrier that is doing it there is little you can do except go take the physical or walk out. The thing that really pisses me off is these clinics are so intent on subjecting a driver to this crap they refuse to listen to a driver when they say I don't have sleep apnea and I sleep fine and have no issues with being tired during the day. When I took my last physical at the Hampton Virginia VA Clinic Dr Sager asked me how are you sleeping? I said OK then she looked at my throat and said OK and nothing more was said about it. This is how it should be done, but these crooks have decided to do otherwise. However with all this being said at some point unless the FMCSA gives direct guidance otherwise these Medical Examiners are going to continue to do it once these new guidelines come about.

I am not going to waste my time typing out how to avoid all of this because I think most know already.

Nobody else but me has to take their physical to the DMV every time you get a new one??
I think not. I guess some folks here have yet to experience this fun part of being a Truck Driver.

You avoid it by going to a company that’s worth your time and effort, because a company like that will not require another physical as long as yours is still good for a while.

Recently a recruiter from a tanker company that will remain unnamed lied through her teeth and told me, and I quote: “We are not legally able to accept a physical someone else paid for.”

Just about all companies issue you a physical. Your current med card has the same value to any company as does a roll of toilet paper.

Just to play Devils Advocate here...
If the Insurance (or leasing or whatever) contract they have requires all new drivers to get a physical, it does become a matter of (contract) law and would be illegal for them to break the contract

That being said, I don't believe me either. :)

I just went through that, but didn’t have any issues. Both physicals tested my hearing and vision, but after that both were different. One didn’t test my periferial vision, the other didn’t make me drop my pants. That seemed unusual, but whatever, I now have two medical cards and the one my company wants me to use has not been scanned in to the DMV because I already have my permit. So I’m a little confused which card I should use if ever pulled over.
