Hi, I've heard some horror stories about the trucking industry, and I'm wondering if they're true. I recently heard that a driver in New Jersey was cited a while back because a four-wheeler behind him busted his right saddle tank while the trucker made a perfectly legal right turn. Supposedly, the judge threw out his case because it's illegal to make a right turn from any lane other than the right lane or right-turn lane. Do I really need to worry about bologna like that?
Nervous about trucking

trucking is just like any other job.....it has its pros and cons, it has horror stories and feel good stories.
Dealing with 4 wheelers, and learning how to properly use the road you are given to drive on is a crucial job skill you will need to learn .......
Drive defensively, keep your head on a swivel, keep your eyes open and alert, and if you cant see someone or something, assume you are gonna run them over so STOP! a little patience goes a long way out hereTaterWagon#62 and Suspect Zero Thank this. -
You have to learn not to think about what might go wrong. You're driving a lethal rolling billboard with unique numbers on each unit. Nowhere to hide, no plausible denial.
Any trouble you get into with a car potentially affects your livelihood.
Still, beardedsinner summed up the important points very well. Not much to add to that except that you might as well relax and enjoy the ride, because sometimes you can do everything right and still get boned.....austinmike and Suspect Zero Thank this. -
Boned is a good word ......and very true

Once you are up in that high seat of the big truck, you will get very good at seeing the 4-wheelers and predicting their (almost) every move.
I don't know anything about the case you mentioned, but I wouldn't be surprised if that trucker did something wrong. Whether he veered too far out of his lane, intentionally cut the car off, who knows. I can only guess.
But I often see truckers trying to be traffic vigilantes, and these are the ones who get in trouble. Don't be a vigilante, just pay attention and be proactive, and you'll be fine. You will have to swallow your pride now and then and mutter some curse words under your breath, but at the end of the day at least everyone lives to see another day.TaterWagon#62 and homeskillet Thank this. -
You said he made a perfectly legal right turn yet the judge disagreed. Was he in fact, in the right lane or right turn lane? Not that it really matters because the driver should have been watching his right mirror for hazards while making the turn.
That driver you speak of was careless and any excuse for what happened is "bologna" -
Dont over think it. You cant worry about everything you hear or read .Just jump in the fire -
