Trucking company gives its two-cents worth on diesel tax in Illinois city

Thanks, but no thanks, is the stance one Texas trucking company is taking after finding out the city of Mount Vernon, IL, is imposing a 2-cent-per-gallon tax on diesel fuel there.
OOIDA Senior Member David Schnautz, general manager for Clark Freight Lines Inc., in Pasadena, TX, sent a memo out to the 200-plus company drivers, as well as the leased drivers, advising them not to take on fuel in Mount Vernon, IL.
He told Land Line Magazine on Tuesday, Nov. 4, he also sent a letter to Mount Vernon Mayor Mary Jane Chesley regarding the decision not to fuel up there any longer.
It is beyond me why government seems to go after the trucker first in order to make up additional revenue to run a city or state, Schnautz wrote in the letter. I suppose they are an easy target, and trucking doesnt pose much opposition compared to the locals. In any event, the answer is not to keep taxing.

I think it's funny though. About time someone stands up to these idiot government officials. A lot of companies have lists of places they won't fuel at. Usually certain truck stops that have bad reps, but it's still a message.

Sad part about it is, they rationalize that the money will actually be coming from the shippers, which is not the case. If they would just think this crap through a bit, they might actually make a difference in a good way.

AS mentioned they will just harass the truck drivers at the scale house now... They will flag them in the computer..
