It's not so much the oxygen, as much as it is what you can do with the oxygen. Dump a tank of oxygen into something, and even a small bomb is much more effective. There is a process that we call "enhanced weapons" or "FAE Fuel Air Explosives" in which you drastically enrich the atmosphere with a gas that supports combustion before igniting your weapon. and they do a wonderful jb of destroying things. So while the actual value of the oxygen is fairly low dollar, the uses of it make it much more valuable than it's financial value.

If you recall, the bomb that detonated in Oklahoma City was an enhanced atmosphere weapon. A few minutes before the diesel fuel/fertilizer bomb went off, the interior of the Ryder truck was filled with flammable gas from acetylene bottles. It made the explosion many times more powerful than the fuel/ferrt would have been alone.

I like my Freightliner for flatbedding:
    • Lots of frame space for side boxes and step boxes (I have two of each on each side) this allows for placement of all my tarps and gear.
    • Plus; with tractor/alum trailer I am less than 30,000 lbs which allows for loading up to 50,000 (happens fairly frequently).
    • Good aerodynamics for good mpg (Detroit 60) average over 6mpg (non egr)
    • I have a condo but I like the extra space as I am quite tall, but a midroof would provide better mpg.

This thread is pretty old. Slick has not posted here since 2012

Sounds too light to be an FLD, and the post being from 2007, it was either a Columbia, Century, or Classic. My 2005 CL120 has tons of room on the frame rails thanks to the in-frame battery box, even with 140gal tanks. Drop down to 80gal tanks snugged up to the fender extensions and we're talking a good 6-8' of frame rail. If I had the choice I'd go with a midroof, since I've never used that extra 2' of cab for anything other than smacking tree branches and getting nervous backing into unmarked overheard doors.

lol. I just noticed the date. It is either my eyes going bad or too many beers last night. I've got a 04 Freightliner Columbia Condo with a Detroit 14 liter. About to start pulling flatbeds with it and wonder if it's too heavy. Has two 150 gallon tanks and the fairings.

Flatbed requires a truck that is able to hold a cup of McDonalds Large Coffee without lid ahead of the manual shifter on the cab floor as you drive.

If you can do that, everything else will be taken care of. Ive done it with short macks, long macks, walking beam macks, volvo midroofs N11, New CH Macks, COE 87 Freightliner... which was in it's day a esteemed favorite. Come across Cotatcin Mountain nb on US 15 in the driving rain and only have to down shift once prior to summit when everything has had about 10 miles to warm up. They sold it. ...

It really does not matter what you hitch to a flat. Just don't let it be a honking huge condo 14 feet high. A mid roof will be perfect.

You smoking again? There are times I could spill a cup of coffee out of a 55 gallon drum. Pour one cup in the drum and be able to spill it.
