Hey folks,
I just landed what seems to be a sweet run from Portland, OR to Reno, NV, yet in the back of my mind I can't help but think that winter is impending doom on this "sweet run"
Can anyone who actually ran this route in the hell-hole of winter tell me specifically the areas of concern as well as the extreme danger areas along the route where chains are generally needed.
Just driving it, I see the snow zone signs and chain up areas, but I saw the same on 84 last year and chained up in areas not posted (mother nature is weird).
Essentially a section by section heads up would be awesome! Thanks in advance for your knowledge!

Finally the decent to K Falls.
Honest and route-detailed answers greatly appreciated!

I always ran I-5,to 0r.58 east to US97 south to Lapine, across Or31 to US 395,south to Reno. You're going to get snow,no matter what way you go,but this keeps you away from the big hills below Medford at the Cal. line, which really seems to get hammered in the winter.Just listen to the weather reports, and pick your poison.

I drive Reno nv to Salem Oregon twice a week take my 10 off at a motel in Salem that company pays for. Good run mostly but last winter lots of chaining between 50-70 mile on 58 a few times had to stay chained up all the way in Klamath falls it's a solid 9 hours from north Reno 10-10.25 from USA parkway so you will be pushing the truck and HOS to complete that run to Portland/Reno In good weather. Bad weather solo I think you will have hos issues both Oregon and calif cops let you run 61 mph no problem I assume that you are driving for on track they always are running faster then 61 and the flatbed guys just do the best they can Klamath falls weigh station is really the only scale house the one on 58 is seldom open. I like the run
