I'll 2nd this.
A big issue we had with local engines(especially Cummins) was too little "full throttle time", which for some reason injects a bit of fuel into the oil? Never had a clear answer why, but still had the same issues even after a replacement engine. These were CNG powered trucks running Allison transmissions, all 20-35mph inner city work.
2012 freightliner cascadia with cummins or Detroit engine?? Which is better to buy?

First doesn't your handle say what you should get?
Second is why are you limiting yourself to the Model A of trucking, with others out there, look for the truck's drive train that suits your needs of what you are hauling.
10 speed?
I got rid of all the 10 speed trucks I had and now exclusive to 13/18s.bigcummins Thanks this. -
I am happy with my big block (I guess) 15 litre isx. Mostly in the range of 75 to 80k. Pa mountains a fair bit of full throttle time. Change it from automotive governor to variable speed governor and it will drive like a real truck.
If I was buying a truck for someone else to drive I would buy the isx with probably 485 hp and smart torque system. Also with 13 or 18 speed. None of that auto trans baloney. -

I'm not an owner/op, but if I may...
I drove nothing but Cummins for 18+ years, and now have been driving the DD13 for about four years. I'm pretty pleased with how it performs.x1Heavy Thanks this. -

I have said over and over the devil dances on my grave in the details. You managed to bring up one item that is a problem with me. DPF issues related to heat.
It goes to show that Im aging and prone to banging my head on the table for being stupid sometimes.
My philosophy is more horse on hand, less fuel burn/work you have to do Does that make sense to you?bzinger Thanks this. -
Get a DD15 over an ISX. My first cascadia had a DD15 and I'd run 45-55mph up cabbage at 40k. There was some rare occasions where I would go slower but that engine had some serious power.
Now I've got a ISX 15 and it pulls like #### compared to the DD15. Neither one has had or ever had DPF issues from nor running heavy loads.
The ISX does get better fuel economy but not by much. Run OTR overall you'll see 7.5mpg on a trip but where I run now I only pull 35k loads from Dallas to weest Texas or Dallas to Houston and pull about 6.8mpg then 10 empty on round trip.
Still of your going to run any serious hills DD15 all day long in my limited experience of two trucks similar claimed power and torque numbers.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Changing the governor setting from automotive to variable speed makes a world of difference with the isx.
I don't have any dd15 experience but it looks more like if you maintain them well, they will both work well. -
Detroit all the way. Bought a 2012 Cascadia, 13 speed, 3:43 gears. Plenty of power and speed. The Cummins engines of 2012 and 2013 had a lot of fuel pump issues that would take out the entire engine.
