Let all the worry warts join in now. Since no one wanted to actually answer his question and would rather run all the regulations by him.

I've been researching this car hauling thing for probably about 2 months and I've had too many guys say there's no money in trucking and cheap rates these guys undercutting everybody well 676 billion last year in the trucking industry and I'm not expecting to haul brand new cars for top pay right out the gate got to work your way up.its like talking to a bunch of schoolgirls and all these guys say hire into a trucking company to learn the ropes I'm sorry but learning to put some straps on a few tires give me a break. I will follow my dreams and risk my money no risk no reward

Ya just buy the ford if you want any resale value in case you decide it's not worth your time. That Kodiak you might as well light it in fire when your done.

Well, he kinda has to follow the regulations if he wants to do this so it'd be helpful to know them.

Don't think anyone has mentioned insurance yet. New dot number + car hauling which is higher than regular freight = a lot of money you'll be spending for a part time gig.

Just throwing a couple straps and thats it huh. I don't haul cars but I've seen enough other people talk about it to know its a little more detailed than that. People love to claim damage on their cars and you'll be the one everybody is pointing fingers at, whether you did it or not. Good luck out there

Since it is that easy you might as well quit your day job and finance a brand new rig. $300,000 will get you one with all the bells and whistles. Experience and due diligence is way over rated anyway. Hell I have seen a ditch dug before I may just start a pipe line company, it can't be too hard.

As for logging, one of the definitions of on-duty time that must be recorded is -

    (9) Performing any compensated work for a person who is not a motor carrier.

Section 395.2 of the FMCSA. Number 8 is the same thing but for a motor carrier. So either way, all hours at your primary place of employment count against you.
