If you have the money, a driving school may be better depending on the driving school. That way the license is yours and you can work where you want. The company will still have a training program with you driving under a trainer. Some companies certify your license and it is issued through them. If you quit, they can pull your license until you get a tractor and trailer to pass the test at a state facility. This can be a fustration.
The freedom of having your license free of company obligations is also a big benefit. Also, the company you go to drive for may have a reimbursement program which would pay for your schooling over time at so much a month/mile/etc. Many of the places that I looked at paid a couple cents less a mile for this and I determined I was better off taking the full pay and paying it myself. But, that would vary with the company.

i personally dont see a Co sponsored thing as being bad.
1 you want to stay at a Co for at least a year to get exp and a "stable" job history
2 a contract for a yr is GOOD motivation to not see if the proverbial "grass is greener" -
check out millis transport, i just started training there and its great!! the people are awsome, and the pay and benifits cant be beat! i have 1 more week to go then i hit the road with a trainer. check it out if u live in oh, win, or ga... i think they hire from elsewhere im not for sure good luck in all you do!

Thanx for all the replies
Personally i dont care where in the country i live as long as i can get the hell out of New england
I have friends/family who live in OK/TX i'm beginning to think they made the right move -
I want out of the New England area myself LOL.
Every week lately I am taking a load to Maine, then Taking one south on 84.
Not bad as long as my return is not off of the I-95 corrodor, but a run south here and there may be nice.
Though I have not asked for one, or stated a preferance lol.
We do not have forced dispatch, I am just nice and take what I am given, that way I know he will hook me up with a high rate load every other week or so.
Just getting bored with the same route up. 86 to 81 to 88 to 90 to 290 to 495 to 95 to Newport lol.
