I am currently going through CR England's CDL training program and just trying to find out more about their career options.
They seem to really be talking up being a trainer. Do they really make an average of $70k per year just training people?
Are trainers able to refuse trainees?
Are trainers ever expected or required to train members of the opposite sex? If you do end up refusing a trainee of the opposite sex, will you be punished?

I wouldn't worry much about becoming a CDL trainer atm, you need a CDL first. That should be the career focus atm because if you fall short, there won't be anything resembling a CDL trainer career coming. If you get CDL, focus on keeping record clean and not missing appts. I am not sure of the prerequisites at CR but if do those, they'll start asking if you are interested. I have heard of trainers over there easily clearing 70K, which you could make at several companies without the training aspect. Get and protect CDL and financial benefit opportunities will open up.
Moving Forward Thanks this. -
Trainers can train members of the opposite sex. But most trainers deny the offers in fear of any sexual misconduct allegations.
Trainers make decent money if they're dedicated. They start off with .30 for all the miles the truck runs, pay increases by the years they've been in the company. My trainer was making $1400+ a week. -
Ok, that is good to know. I assume then that there are no penalties for refusing?
-
Nope they don't even need to give a reason. Only thing I can think of is the DM giving him #### miles but never heard of it happening to trainers.

You're already in training at C.R. England and now you're wanting to know more about their career options? Ordinarily prospective employees ask that question up front and get it in writing before they sign the dotted line.
How much longer will you be in training and do you have any prior experience driving Big trucks?
I'll bet they are. Have they mentioned being your own boss by leasing a Big truck from them yet? Would that interest you?Do you think they'd tell you that if it weren't true? Did they mention how many or percentage of their trainers actually make that kind of money?
Will you be a company driver trainer or a lease operator? If you'll be a company driver trainer you may not have a choice in the matter. If you're leasing a Big truck from them you may not be able to afford to turn any trainee down or risk being unable to make the lease payments.
Even though CRE has been taken to court for sexual harassment I'm sure at some point that it will be expected of every trainer to take on a trainee of the opposite sex.Certainly not. It may seem and feel like punishment, but they call it something else, so it's exactly the same, .... only different. Keep in mind that a dispatcher has the ability to make or break a Big truck truck driver, especially those who decided to be their own boss by leasing a Big truck from the Sons-0-Chester.
You might want to ask them what percentage of their leased drivers went belly up in a short time compared to those who regularly make that $70,000 a year as a driver trainer. You might also want to ask your trainer how much he/she paid for the privilege of training you. As I understand it's like a Rent-A-Trainee because with a trainee aboard they can keep the wheels rollin' --- thereby making more money running like a team while the trainer trains from the bunk with their eyes closed (sleeping). Not sure if a company driver trainer has to rent trainees though. But I wonder how many company driver trainers pull in $70,000 a year?
You've chosen a company with probably the worst reputation for the way they operate, saying one thing and doing things another way. Bait-N-Switch.When/If a driver displeases dispatch, that driver can expect to be doing a lot of sitting, waiting for another short hop load to and from places Big truck truck drivers dread going. There are hundreds of examples of the way C.R. England treats their drivers right here at TTR in the Bad Trucking Companies thread. Have you read any of them? If not, I recommend that you do.
If I were in your shoes I'd start looking at other companies right now, just don't make that known. Get your CDL-A in hand, thank 'em very much, and run, -- don't walk, -- through the revolving door marked "EXIT" or "ESCAPE".
If you survive C.R. England it impresses other companies. They seem to understand.
OH!
BTW, Swift and Knight, and a couple more Big truck truckin' companies, are family related. Chester England married Maude Knight back in the day.
But I digress, .................ladr Thanks this. -
Not being smart here, but worry about getting your cdl first. And to be blunt from talking to numerous cre "trainer". CRE does not have trainersMoving Forward Thanks this.

Did you get a CDL? Are you still interested in being a trainer for CR England? Let us know how it's going for you.
