I bought my last pair of winter work boots at Walmart a few years ago. They are Herman Survivors "Kodiak", made in China. They are waterproof with a non-metallic safety toe. After retiring, I continued to wear them on our daily two-mile walk whenever there was snow on our route. They show no signs of wear. Each boot weighs 3 lbs.

Work boots are not made for walking. I tried the Kodiaks again last week when we had some snow. The soles are more flat, and the heel is not "tapered". Work boots cause an unnatural gait.

So, I bought a pair of waterproof hiking boots by Hi-Tec, also made in China. I bought them at Dunhams. Each boot weighs 2 lbs. If I was still on the job, I would wear hiking boots although the soles do not claim to be oil resistant. You know, some truckdrivers actually do a lot of walking on the job.

While I am not a driver yet, I have found the most comofortable all purpose boots out there (for me at least) are thorogoods. they are GREAT tactical footwear, I am hoping they will do as good for driving all day.

the work boots i purchase i get from FARM N FLEET. it is a midwest supply store

they are made of real leather and believe it or not MADE IN AMERICA...
they have soles that are'nt as thick or heavy as CATs and the collar at the ankle is also thin
i get the kind that can be laced up quickly i.e. lanscaper version

i usually pay right at 70.oo

They are much lighter than Red Wings or Cat as well. Pretty decent shoe all around.

Red Wing sells a cheaper shoe called Worx , but these are made in China, they aren't quite as comfortable as Red Wings made in the USA.

There are other brands like Georgia and Chippewa and Wolverine that are also usually lighter and less expensive.
