That was my impression, that this was satire at it's finest on The Onion. It's Bloomberg, and they have links to the US database for patents. Let's just hope Walmart is trolling their competition.

Most of these so call innovations by these "be all, end all" companies are aimed at the metropolitan shopper. Probably 75% of the population will not be able to take advantage of these innovations, because they are outside the operating areas. If you don't live in NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, DFW, and so forth, don't plan on that same day drone delivery.

But the irony is, the dense urban areas are where they're going to have all the serious problems associated with drones and such. Seriously? A drone operating autonomously in NYC? Never going to happen unless you have rooftop access, which will likely extend above FAA allowed AGL operation.

A whole new territory will open up for the next generation of "pirates" and robbers and other criminal types.

I could see hydrogen coming back in some form due to the not widely known, yet looming shortage of helium. Hydrogen is everywhere, while helium is easily lost.
Then of course there's the prospect of "hot air" ships where it's several hot air balloons contained within a single structure.
A nice, happy medium between ship transport and bullet speed air travel. Get there not so quick, but not so slow either.

I can remember mom/dad getting both the Wards and Sears Christmas catalogs. But it seems I remember always preferring the Sears - for both toys and hunting gear

A few years back, quantico marine base in northern virginia was demolishing old housing for new to be constructed and they were either selling cheap or giving away the sears houses constructed on base. I dont know if they had any takers.
