I am going to be starting driving school with 1 of these 2 companies around Dec. 1st. However as with everything I have heard bad reports concerning both companies....any advice yall can throw my way would be great.

I keep hearing from so many people how bad Werner is now days, My grandpa drove for them in the early 90's before he and my dad went team with rapid freight (now out of business thanks to ####### not paying the bill and using the income to build a mansion anyways....) I know he really loved his dispatcher and always had more miles than he could legally run (not that it stopped him or my dad for a long time lol). Reason I have narrowed it down to these 2 companies is because of after finishing training I can have my dog with me (please no more posts about how inhumane this is etc etc....) I like the thought of FFE due to their food hauling, and I know no matter how slow or economy may seem people still have to eat. I am just not sure about their idling policy

Where are you located? Are Werner and FFE your only choices? Do you have your CDL or experience? Do you need schooling? There are so many questions before I could give an answer. I myself work for Werner and am content. I had a verrry long training due to lack of trucks but settled in to a route which was exactly what I was looking for.

I heard there was a freeze on hiring at Werner but they could answer that better as well. Keep your options open and investigate as many comapnies as possible.

    (1) I do not have a CDL so I will be going with a company which offers driver training to new drivers,
    - I investigated going to driver school on my own dime, but due to some financial problems I cannot afford to do so, I could afford the schools, but none that I contacted in Texas have any form of lodging which puts a real problem on it....

    (2) I live in Central Texas (if you know our maps very well I am about 50 miles south of Cross Plains which is on I-20

(3)While Werner and FFE are not the only companies available to me for driver training, they are the only ones which offer both driver training, and once I get in my own rig I can keep my dog with me.

Lol yea, Since I joined this site I have been going crazy both responding to threads and creating new 1's. I am obsessive compulsive that way with forums.

IMO I would stay away from the big blue screw..... I used to work for Lisa Motor lines they are owned by FFE. I was there from 98-03 and they were real good to me. You may want to check with them also. Lisa takes care of their drivers better then FFE.

Well I am still waiting for a call back from FFE. I kind of chose them first due to the fact it doesnt matter how slow the economy is people like to eat.

I was a O/O leased to FFE for a whopping 6 months.. During that time I saw a lot of BS going on there.. DEFINATELY STAY AWAY FROM THEIR LEASE PURCHASE PROGRAM..

I personaly saw 3 trucks leave the yard in TX try to go to Waco and they couldn't even make that trip... One had a A/C compressor seize up.. Another had a water pump crap out.. The last one started smoking like mad.. (possible turbo?)

They seem to be just another training company. They try and run you and work you as hard as they can till you break and quit.. The trucks arn't maintained all that great.. The trailers were okay.. But, from a O/O standpoint they were terrible.. Just about everything they did cost you somthing.. I.E.; $35 "pool charge" for picking up a pre-loaded trailer, a mysterous driver association fee that was charged to you every month ($35 I think) I never figured out what it was suppose to do..

All trailers were to have the reefer topped off whenever dropping them (O/O had to buy all their reefer fuel, pay for trailer washouts, and lumpers). The straw that broke this camels back was the 3 1/2 days I sat in Friona, TX (meat packing plant) waiting on a load of ground beef... It seems it had to have an ecoli inspection done.... FFE paid me $350 for "laying over"... I flipped out.. 3.5 days lost I! I lost about $1500 in revenue I told them.. They didn't care..

The students were treated expecialy bad.. Waiting for days in a motel for a "trainer" who had barely any experiance themselves.. I gal was animate that using the jake brake was damaging to the engine and would not allow anyone to use it in her truck!! WOW.. where do they find these people??
