yes, they can give you 10 hours for not marking a cat scale 5 days ago, if they find it under your seat and you completely forgot about it. Iowa ---- yes.

Doesn't matter what you use for a log, paper or some app or a full on ELD, if there's a receipt that doesn't match your log, you're gonna get a ticket if they catch it.

    Yes I know that.
OK,I have it easier as I don't stay out for weeks so I only have receipts from couple of days back and the rest is pretty much history. My understanding is that he went over HOS in log book simply by mistake.

Doesn't this violate search and seizure?
Why didn't you tell him no and demand a supervisor? There are still private areas of a commercial vehicle

You might be right, I was thinking a receipt didn't match up.

10 hours oos is mandatory, if there is any evidence found, that the log book was cooked
But did you know that HOS violations as such are not an immediate reason to put someone OOS, provided that they took place prior to the last legally required break? That of course, does not apply when you are over 70, but if they discovered today (after your 10 hour rest) that on Monday you drove 13 hours or rested only for 7, they could give you a ticket but would not have to put you out of service at all.

Anyway, I got my first 10 hours OOS in IA (DeSoto) then in AZ (I 17 Camp Verde) and my last one was in 2004 in North Platte, NE. 3 times and no more since then. With age and more gray hair they bother you or suspect you less, I think.

yes!!!!! Iowa mishap took place in 2002, so it was 8 hours, AZ and NE in 2004 after the HOS changed.
