I love the media. They put out something like this, then don't bother to tell you anything worthwhile.

So, my first question is, will this be on a voluntary basis on the part of the truck driver, or will it be assigned, either as mitigation for some violation received, or demanded by the employer?

I would not have a problem with this, if it is strictly voluntary.

T.A.C.T program has been used for some time in Kentucky. Usually with a company that has chosen to help with the program with a dedicated truck and driver. this is a great program and more states should use it to target unsafe drivers. And for all you super truckers that like to tailgate and cut other drivers off while making lane changes just remember you never know who is in that vehicle. The officers running this program are out here to protect you and your family from unsafe drivers both 4 wheelers and big trucks. FYI this program was started by a truck driver trying to make the roads safer for everyone.

I have read stories about this in WA and KY. All seem to open the eyes of the troopers more than the drivers. I think it has been a goo educational tool in both states. I know a few news stories about the program in WA were done with favorable results, not sure about KY. IN is goig to start the program and it is a good thing for the trucking industry as a whole. What could be bad the troopers get to see the things from our point of view. May-be their attitudes towards truckers will change, and we could see them as more to our liking.
