i just paid a 200 dollar ticket in Missouri for 1470 over on one axle. Literally the entire load was 30k and it was almost 1500 over on the trailer. Not only did they make me correct it, but they inspected me on the spot and wrote me a ticket. I also had a ticket for an expired registration, which I only received because when DOT gave me my permit book back after a post crash level 2 inspection the week previous, they didn't return it with my current registration. I got that one dropped, but it was also like 300 something dollars. They wouldn't budge on the axle weight.
I've been that much over a number of times with no issues if it is one axle and they either didn't say #### or didn't ticket me and made me correct it and rescale.
No psp or csa points, but it cost money and that also sucks a lot. Just make sure it's loaded properly and scale the load before you hit a coop.
do overweight tickets go on your CSA, MVR, PSP, etc.? and a follow-up question

No one gets a csa unless they were inspected. I don't understand why that's so hard to understand. And yes. Overweights CAN go on csa If inspected and noted.

Overweight tickets will show on your MVR depending on the state you're licensed in, and the state your were cited in. In Texas, a second overweight ticket within 3 years of a previous weight infraction, will increase the fine amount by 50%, a third infraction by 100%. It just depends on how your home state classifies the citation.
Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
Overweight isn't a moving violation.
It shouldn't be on a mvrBean Jr. Thanks this. -
I see where the fine doubles for the 3rd offense, but that is within 1 year, not 3. I don't see anything in regards to increased fines for the 2nd offense or that it goes on your MVR (although it could be noted on the MVR since they need to keep track of it somewhere). -
My company is famous for running a tad hefty on some (a lot) of our loads. We've learned not to drive in the direction of a coop without knowing it's all good, the company pays all CAT scale tickets without question. We pull end dumps and we haul whatever will pay the freight. So I used to work for the Highway Department before I decided to do something crazy and get back in a truck and I had friends in Missouri who worked at the scales (Troopers). I was told that in MO if a truck is 1,000lbs over gross or on any axle it is department policy to issue a ticket for one or both violations... Now under 1,000 gross or axle then it is officer discretion. It was explained to me that they are aware that you can't do much with liquid in a tank or something like wet feed in an end dump. So they use their discretion. So if you have a sloshy load and come up over on an axle by up to a thousand then they will likely just roll you across but if your over gross then you will have to speak to someone about that.
The first lesson is SCALE YOUR LOAD ASAP...The second lesson is that if you know it's over don't bring it directly to them! Find another way even if it's a few extra miles... Don't go for the short cut around the scales, they know about those.. Just use your Trucker Path app and find a different route. I know a driver who looks similar to me who just left Iowa grossing 82k and found his way to the blue grass without ever coming close to a scale and the route was legit... So remember there are some good highways out there and also remember that with the budget cuts all these broke red states (and at least one blue) have had to endure they can't keep all the scales open 24/7 like they did back in the day.. In some places they are lusky to open them 8 hours a day 3 days a week... I'm not kidding. That's why checking the history on the TP app is nice... But never trust anything except your own eyes and only believe one of them! It's a calculated risk if your going to run in the middle of the day. There are some left that stay open all night but mostly those are border scales... As you are running your region take notice of these patterns, they will help you decide the when and the where.
Best advice is don't run illegal and believe me I do try but I get loaded from a guy in a loader who will just dump stuff in until you say QUIT! Sure we got suspension gauges but they aren't always accurate, depends on what your standing on. So I understand the occasional time when they say....Oops your grossing 82k, we really don't have a place to dump it back out... Which is code for "will you run with it?" You should say no unless you have the experience in "artful routing" that is needed. -
Really , you THINK it a red state blue state thing?

Ask yourself which states are on the edge of bankruptcy .
