Stevens Transport - Dallas, Tx.

ok my bad, maybe i misread what ya wrote and took it outa context, but per diem is supposed to be voluntary so Stevens is pulling some BS there. i know my buddys brother didnt do the perdiem with them

 

I am not a truck driver, but I am considering getting into it; but definitely NOT with Stevens Transport. I'd like to tell you why.

When I first contacted them, they were SOOO nice. Every other time I contacted them, they were even nicer; too nice. Anybody who is super-sweet to me whom I don't even know, I don't trust. The last person who was that overly friendly to me was trying to get me to become an Amway distributor. In fact, I call it the 'Amway dsitributor voice.' After reading these posts here, I can see that my hunch about Stevens was a good one.

Any recommendations about a good company to be trained by? I'd like to go to a regular truck driving chool, but cannot put the money up front at this time; your input would be appreciated.

 

Dose anyone have any new news about Stevens? i am scheduled to start with them 2 week of dec?????

 

so far so good i have been here 3 weeks and i am due to leave this sat
with a over the road trainer....
It is not easy work but you can do it ,there are lots of background checks and drug test and lots of that sort of thing,..
and then there are lots of test to take written and over the road so be prepared to study till your brain falls out....

you went there without any driving experience at all?

 

No i did not have any experience at all I actually came here 2and half weeks ago
and now I know how to drive the truck , how ever I may not be a SUPER TRUCKER
but I believe I can do the job..I have knowledge I did not have before I can say
I have got the knowledge to drive now,, not the experience yet! but that will come in my 5 week training over the road...

 

that is what its all about. i drove back in the middle 90's for 3 years. just dont have my cdl.
how much driving did you get in the first weeks of training?

I was talking to the recruiter last week, all was great, go, go , go

Just got off the phone with an assistant in the recruiting department, because I have not been able to get in touch with the recruiters,

Was told that due to the economy, They are only hiring experienced drivers for certain areas of work.

So since I already have my CDL and schooling, they didn't want me...........

 

So just because you already have your CDL, they will not take you? Sounds a bit "funny" to me.

Now changing the subject...
I have been reading all 300+ posts about Stephens...and I'm still a bit lery about calling them back to confirm my training date for the 24th. But you better believe I will be asking a lot more "in depth" questions just to see how "chipper" they respond back will determin if I confirm or not.

I'm looking to start a new career since leaving the Navy this past August and I enjoy being out on the road driving (I've done many coast to coast trips in my truck with the military) which is why I'm looking at obtaining my CDL and have fun while earning an honest living.

Based upon what I've read on this thread, it's all about your attitude towards becoming a member of the trucking industry. If all you're doing is looking for a quick way to earn money with as little effort, then this isn't the right move...but if you're willing to put forth the effort, then this can be a rewarding career move.

I look at it this way, I've had to endure many "unplesant" tasks while serving our country in the military and this adventure towards obtaining my CDL will be no different. You take the good and the bad and turn it all into a positive experience.

 

Yes, because I already have my CDL, they cannot tie me up for a financial obligation to them for schooling or a year of indentured servitude over my head, because I would just be an employee and OWE then nothing. They would have nothing to threaten me with.

I to am looking for a career, and I am willing to work hard for it. I have been spitting out RV's on assembly lines for 15 years and that industry just dried up and blew away

So I am looking for a future that I have to build my self.

If I was you gadlgbs I would look at swift or prime they are much better represented here than stevens or werner. but no matter what, we all have to start somewhere.
