One is always better off to obtain a good education, but I have a sister that went to college for about 10 years and has not worked in years. I know others that went to college for many years and the field of expertise they entered has went away. There are medical doctors out there that spent 10-14 years in college and got tired of all the mal-practice suits and insurance and went trucking. Just because you go to college don't think you have a secure field.

We read you loud and clear on the know it all.

Yes your right but wouldn't it be nice to have that to fall back on if you got tared of trucking or maybe hurt so you couldn't drive? Like me trucking is all I ever known.Just maybe if I was more educated I might have not drove a truck for forty year's. And today I may not have all the health problems that I do. No such thing as what if. This is your life so take care of it.Danny

NoTarps,...I understand what yous have to say,.....I was only trying to give the original poster something to think about....So many bright eye'd Young Un's seem to get into this industry thinking BIG MONEY,..and by the time the harsh realities set in it's too late to do anything about it....
I can only give advice from my lifes perspective....It's a sick feeling when all you have to make a living is a CDL, And HATE OTR,..No I will not live in a rolling prision cell,..Some can,and that's great..... So I keep looking for local work..and will move for it..But so far even a CLEAN CDL A,with NHT isn't enought to get hired,..when very few commpanies are taking apps.
I guess nobody ever gave me a pair of rose colored glasses to look at trucking with.......... -
ZHillyard, Try Texas Workforce, go to WIA. I live in Texas and had no money for trucking school, I got a grant for school, its toatally paid for and I don't have to pay any of it back

Very helpful sir, thank you.

Haha, if I was thinking big money I'd go rob a bank.
I'm a certified audio engineer, have producer experience. I've mixed and mastered over 600 hours worth of material. There is no possible way trucking is half as bad as the music industry.
My long-term goal is to save up enough money driving a truck to open my own studio. I'm not going to make it if I continue working out of other people's studios losing over 40% of my total income per job.
It's hard enough for me to sit here and have to admit that the job that I love and live for isn't going to make the money I need to get by if I don't take a few steps back and re-evaluate my decisions.
I need a job that will allow me to live comfortably while I work my life out. -
Well, if your trying to have or start a biz like that at home,..I would look into the local soda, beer, liquor, food, distributors.ect.....If they feel you have people skills, or sales skills..ect....They may just train yous to get your cdl..and yous would be able to be home at night to "Make the noise".......
