They check your log book and will compare it with scale tickets , toll receipts , fuel receipts , etc. . If you are found to be in violation they will put you out of service for 10 hours and fined . If you falsified your log book you could be charged with felony charges . It can also bite you up to six months later if your carrier is audited . The inspector can use Promiles software to enter location points at duty status changes to see the minimum driving time . You cannot average the speed limit . In a 55 m.p.h. zone they consider averaging over 50 m.p.h. suspicious . If you drive 300 miles in less than 6 hours you can still be charged with speeding or log book falsification .

 

Who is "THEY"? "They" as in a dispatcher? "They" as in a federal DOT officer? "They" as in a state DOT officer? "They" as in your Safety Director? "They as in Pinkerton Rent-A-Cop?

 

Sort of all of the above with the exception of the rent a cop. The one that will cost you big bucks is the state DOT at the scale or road side temporary station.

Then you have the company safety department. These are the folks who scan your logs into the computer and verify all the information, IE: time vs miles, fuel stops, etc. These folks, particularly if the company has been audited and been found lacking, are the ones who send out the "naughty boy/girl" letters. They can and do cause a driver who is found to be repeatedly violating the law and company policy to get some unpaid time off, or even terminated.

Then you have the feds. They are the ones that audit the company's records.

(heh-heh, as if YOU didn't know!!!)

The bottom line is that any of the above can spank your pee-pee.

 

It is not 10 hours rest, it is 10 hours combined off duty or sleeper berth. You are not required to sleep at this time, you can do anything you want during the 10 hour break that is not work related.

You can get your 10 hour consecutive break one of 3 ways!

1) 10 hours in the sleeper
2) 10 hours off duty
3) a combination of lines 1 & 2. You do not have to sleep 8 hours as many drivers are thinking. The 8 hours in the sleeper is for split breaking regulations.

You don't have to sleep 10 hours, however it would be wise of all drivers to make sure you are getting adeqate rest.

In fact the word REST is correct. LOGSRUS is correct. In this case REST may mean sleeping or resting. Another definition of REST in this instance is NOT WORKING. The word REST does not absolutely mean sleep although it may. It means not working for 10-hours.

Don't attempt to confuse the word REST with SLEEP

Sleep for 10 hours.

One week, I got a load to deadhead 100 miles for the load only to find it didn't load for 12 hours. Started the day at 6 am and found this out at 9:30 am. Mind you I had just slept for the previous break. Dispatch said go back to bed and take another 10 hour break.

Think sleep was possible?
