It could well be that these folks are just trying to get the job done and are used to working with folks who "know the ropes." So when a newby comes in not know what is going on it can add to their stress.
Or - they can just be jerks!![]()
Seems like every company has one here and there. If you can look at it as it being "their problem," and just continue to be civil to them you will be OK. Don't let "their problem" become "your problem."

Yep figure you summed it up pretty good, and great advise. I am a really patient person, takes a lot to get a rise out of me. My very first load, I told the security guy at Save A lot when I pulled in, he got a kick out of it, and was really cool to me. I am by no means saying they are all or not even most like what I described. Its just the few that stick out in my mind, and always wonder if its me or if they are just like that, and I go on and try and not to act to ignorant.

I agree with most of what your saying, but I have seen alot of receivers that have a chip on their shoulder and they are pissed off at every driver that walks in the door I first go in there and try to be as nice as I can with them, like you said...some of them are overworked and have a bad day....It happens to us all. However I will only take so much of their crap before I get an attatude with them. I dont like to be ugly with anyone, but I wont let them talk down to me like I am a pice of crap for no reason.
Sometimes when they cross the line you can talk to them and they will say sorry and calm down, but thats not always the case.
Bottom line.... Treat them with the respect you would want, but when they cross that line stand up for yourself. -
Since we are on the subject of receiving clearks being jerks. One place that realy sticks out is the Albertsons DC in Denver, CO. It all starts with the rent a cops at the gate and goes down hill from there. They used to have a receiver that worked the reefer side and from what I can tell he was the supervisior for that area. Short fat white guy with an attatude from hell. Back in 02 a bunch of drivers were in line waiting on this fool and when he came in the first words out of his mouth was " WTF do you want" driver handed him the bills he looked at it got all pissed off and threw it back right in the drivers face. Went real down hill from there. Driver layed him out on the dock, cops took him away. Not a good day at that place.

Yeah, that is the kind of thing you really want to avoid. No, you don't want to let them walk all over you. But do you really want to lose control and smack somebody...Then go to jail...Then get sued.
What happens if you knock the jerk on his a55, but in landing he hits his head on the concrete and goes nite-nite. Permanently? Do you really want to have to live with the results of that? Just because somebody is being a jacka55?
I know I would not. -
Thats true....there is a line between between standing up for yourself and loseing your cool and punching someone out. IMO I would say the jerk had it comming for throwing the BOL in the drivers face, was it the right thing to do...NO. The Denver cops that showed up were very cool with the driver, they treated him fair and like a human being. They did have to take him in because of what happened and I did over hear them tell the driver that he would be out later that day and it will be a assault charge. The one thing the cops did do also that I thought was cool was they layed in that clearks a55 for what he did and told him that one day he was going to do that to the wrong driver and get hurt much worse then what happened today and told him that truck drivers are people too that are doing their job to make an honest living and he had no right to treat them like trash. I thought that was cool of Denver PD.

I know it is hard to believe but (most) cops are human too. Sometimes they HAVE to do things, even though they don't want to.
Lilbit Thanks this. -
I never had any problems with Albertsons in Denver their lumpers told me the wrong door or I heard the wrong door number to pull into but that was all.

I use to drive and now I'm a warehouse manager at a large company. I have to put up with all the drivers that you complain about on a daily bases. I would have to say that 3 out 10 drivers are jerks.
Yesterday I had a driver show up 2 hours late and then proceeded to give me lip and demand that I unload him next. When I told him he would be unload at my conveniences, he started to get irate. Should I have put him to the front of line?
And has been stated by others, I do have bad days too.

That was a while ago, it was on the reefer side of the DC. Things may have changed by now. I have not been there in over 5 years.
