I used to use them like a punch card. When the step was full, I'd go home and throw them out before I left again. Same concept applies to door seals for dry vans. Might start doing it again to get the gears turning for some that don't have anything else to put them in motion.

I keep broke bungees in the same fashion. Instead of just tossing them on the ground, and possibly causing someone else a flat tire, I slide them in my side step. Once I collect enough, I either take them back to the terminal and turn them in, or toss them.
A nice side effect of keeping them in this way, it provides more grip on the step in the winter and keeps one from busting his, or her, ###.
