Yes, they worked for somebody, figured out the plan and kept working themselves. Then yes, you can make good money.
But you don't come into the business knowing completely nothing, buying a truck and putting driver in it. Heck, even yourself and your shiny trucks friends, try putting drivers in your rigs and check how much chrome will be left on them after a year.
Oh, and grow up a bit, with your attitude you won't be able to keep a driver if you ever decide to hire one![]()

I read the posting with interest. I studied your plan long and hard. I actually did some research for you and considered every possible outcome and I can say with all confidence that the answer is maybe.

I'm agree with Dune-T. You don't know a nothing about this business. The main thing is not a buying truck or counting money. Main problem is people who work's for you and where then maintenance of your truck. But if you don't know a nothing about that you only lose your time and money. This is not a piece of cake, this is hard work with hard money. Try to work as a driver then buy your truck and then hire a people.
Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
Are you kidding? LOL! If you want to make a million in trucking, start with Two! Step away from the keyboard before you financially ruin yourself. Trust me on that.
-
Fin, you cannot make this sheet up! LMAO!!!!

I'm not looking for that. I hate work with stupid people
SL3406 and Justrucking2 Thank this. -
How come some peopLe get upset when a non drivery wants to start a trucking fleet? I do understand he needs to do more research and learn the business, and having a cdl won't hurt, but I know guys that started a trucking company, the same way, and are successful. But the key is know your cost, know your expenses, don't jump out there on a shoe string budget, so when expenses start hitting , youll be able to maintain.

It can work if he knows the business.
Know how to format a company, rather it's an llc or corp. Have a plan on how your going to generate income from the truck , rather you run under a carriers authority or run under your own, you need to compare the difference. Know your lanes, know how to calculate cpm, fuel surcharge, this way you know how to price the freight, expect not to get decent freight from brokers, when your authority is new, it may take 6 months , but that's ok, just know these things before hand this way your prepared. Have your reserves set aside - (Money for payroll, + Money for maintenance )
This is a very crucial element of why new O/Os fail, they don't have enough in reserves to carry them til they get their revenue up. But if you seriously consider these key elements and prepare for the worst case scenarios, then you'll be covered all the way around. -
And how can someone know the business if they have never worked in it?

Part of the reason I'm giving you this advice, is because I'm planning on doing this very same thing myself, except I've been doing my homework, like you wouldn't imagine, I plan on statting with 1 truck initially to test the waters, but here's how I plan on doing it.
Easy , study it, learn it, you don't have to touch the fire to know it's hot, just ask the guy that got burned. Read books on fire, talk to firefighters, etc, you get my point.
