How was the transition to a trucking career?I know in construction there's little more money to be made than first few years in trucking (around here anyway in Tx.).
I think trucking's gonna be around for a while, unlike millwright jobs.
Millwright jobs kinda go hand in hand with factories, which are in a death spiral just about anywhere in the US.
I'm 45 years old and done the traveling following construction jobs around thing,no future in it too much slack time in between jobs.
That's why I'm going to give this a shot.

Anyway just wanted some opinions from whoever's been in the same boat.

i have been in construction for over 15 years, i have been a branch manager for the past year and 1/2 but pres came into my office one day and told me we were going to have some cuts... guess what i was the cut!!!! i am going into ( back to driving i drove for 3 years in the middle 90's) driving. will start in dec with one of two companys, Central Refrigeration out of SLC UT or Stevens Transport out of TX. I have read all the good and bad with both. i guess i'll just take the lesser of the two.
mandiesel who are you looking into?

Don't know yet, right now I don't even have my CDL yet.
After the first of the year I'm planning on getting my license at a school in Houston,I can do it on weekends 12 of them to be exact.
After that I rankin as a newbie I'll have to start with someone like Schneider or Swift.
Thought about TMC also, but I guess the main thing is getting on with anyone to gain some experience I understand as a newbie there's not whole lot of choices out there until after at least a year or so.

well dsis20 i have a post up in another section called Prime vs. Millis as i have been approved by both, they both look like good companies so i am trying to get the pros and cons out so i can choose, so far it looks like i am leaning toward Millis, i'll give it a couple more days then i will decide , i allready spoke with millis and filled a spot for jan. 12th all i have to do is send the 100$ and its a lock. Prime runs every tuesday and all i have to do is call them back and they will send a bus ticket. So with all that a couple more days in the forums and i will make the plunge.:biggrin_255:

I have been a millwright in a papermill for 12 years now. We are running good right now. Must be money in paper for now. I got my CDL a couple years ago but decided to stay millwrighting as long as I have the job.
