Not talking at anyone in particular. Started with a quote because it gave me a good jumping off place.
As for the Uber thing I completely agree and that is exactly what I am going to do probably Monday or Tuesday right after checking in with OOIDA. Need a progress report.
Going to try this Convoy thing too. Things are changing it seems. There is a website called Direct Freight too, I am going to explore that.
Uber Freight?! What is this madness?!?!

Uber for vehicles is good for part time work. You have to know where the hot spots are in your area, where and when is the best times to drive.

I had a fantasy once you can uber up a big truck to show up at your house and load whatever you want. And ship it wherever. Done. Paid. Poof. Move on.
The trucking industry will find themselves outmatched by a app a shipper who has freight to ship and a trucker ready to roll out and turn wheels on demand 24/7 with a complete and total realization that the current headquarters office building with all the overhead, dispatch floors, staffers on other floors and safety etc. Obselete. Raze it. Keep the shop and land to store trailers and fuel. Otherwise it's all apps direct to the drivers covering the potential shipping territory.
In essence you would see truckers waiting in the rest area or truckstop or some other spot like a drop lot etc for the Uber to come in.
First truck to arrive to that person who whistled on his smart phone trucking app gets the job.
Over my dead body. Think of this... computer trucks. They get the electronic call and show up on demand. Load and close doors like a giant pet or drone. They go away. Eventually at some point it gets delivered.
It might drive down costs. No more 1.00 or even 1.50 a mile pay to the driver or 3.00 per mile pay to a team of two married drivers. That will go away. Freight rates tumble to .90 a mile to the uber smartphone caller looking for that truck.
That is my take on the future.
Theoratically I can take one pallet lots on my tahoe right now by removing the back seat and lump it, toss the pallet in the gate and go. It has the capacity to do it without a trailer.izifaddag Thanks this. -
I think this app is new and for truckers and non cdl drivers looking for gigs. You have to register to see the gigs. Transporting pets, boats, furniture, etc. The On-the-Way Delivery Network - Roadie

filled in their app. Nobody contacted me for insurance. I am guessing this is a waste of time.

They're just like any other broker out here we just got set up with them last Friday.
-
i got set up with them.. so far no good loads worth booking(to me) .. they are young at it but dont realise yet how demanding this thing is... they have very little loads as most shippers will need he load to move as soon as it is available and not last outstanding for more than a day. Because anyone can book right out of the app, i imagine they can't also post it on boards to give it to a broker coz if the broker books it and it doesnt the taken down from uber quick enough then there would be an issue.. but i am sure they would work around it. Out of NM and El Paso, there are no loads since yesterday on uber.. i ll keep checking on every place the truck unloads see if i can find a load worth booking.. the upside they sell on the service, the price you see is what you get paid and within 2-3 days, i dont know how they would handle detention and such extras

They have a phone number you call just like any other broker. They have reefer loads near me. They're just another broker.
-
Out of curiosity what kind of rates are you seeing them offer?
-
One of the loads in particular. It was a posted rate at almost double what that lane ordinarily runs for (what I know it will book for - not DAT's 15 day lane avg) but that's not to say they were generously giving money away to truckers while others were stingy. The load still wasn't getting covered and almost everyone else is posting similar rates. They're going to float with the market like everyone else the only thing they offer different is quick pay with no fees.
