I drive a '16 Volvo day cab with iShift and D13 engine. Great truck. When I buy one, I'll be looking for a 2013 or newer with iShift, or 13 speed if iShift isn't available in my price range.

OP is asking about old trucks though. And buying a truck of that age, that autoshift is gonna be much cheaper to repair. I believe no independents even service ishift. So for OP's position autoshift is the best choice of automatics, because it's so simple. He does not need the ultrashifts or ishiftswindsmith Thanks this. -
Thanks guys. I run containers part time so I don't need the newest and best thing, just something that is going to work and not cost me a fortune. I sit in a lot of traffic which is the reason for the auto if not I really like 13 speeds. Thanks for the advice, keep it coming. What about rust issues, I see a lot of doors with rust on the edge of the door skins..

I have a volvo 2005 D12 engine 10spd trans for 1,5years. It has 1million on this engine and 1760000 miles on frame. 7.2mpg. This is my second truck with 10spd and I'd like to change it to 13spd because of heavy loads and not a powerful engine. I have a rust on a door and frame, but I dont worries about this, because I can buy a used door for 300$ and paint frame for 700$. I will not recommend to buy a truck with auto transmission. I know lot of trucks sitting in my yard with the problems with this transmission. This auto transmission is very sensitive for electrical problems.
