The automaton would not be that different from human interaction in some cases. The only requirement would need to be a very thorough description of the commodity and appointments. If I look at CHR the talk is really minimal; they can agree to increase the rate by $100 - 200 now and then but they seem very rigid in that respect. The only reason I need to call them is the commodity info and the rate. The rate adjustment can be done by bidding. It is a different story, if trying to get some deeper relation with a "Mike and Joe", and see if they can call you with offers/tenders for another week.

I'm looking for more specific info than pickup times, weight, customers, etc. I'm listening to the broker to gauge what sort of need there is. You can't do that with an automated system. That's how I get my profit makers. I bid a lot of the same loads over and over when they are available and I am too. But I dont always bid them even when they are of interest to me. Circumstance. That gives whoever has the load time to beat my bid. Sometimes it is best to not bid anything at all and if they come to you later on asking if you can only then give your price. Letting them hang so I win the bid. If I don't get it then maybe next time.
The only reason CHR seems so rigid always is you haven't been in the right place at the right time or don't deal with them enough. I've seen a $1,500 offer from them turn into $3,000 when the need was there. I suppose you could put a bid like that in an automated system all the same tho. I do prefer and like to deal with people. And again there are still a lot of scenarios out here with some van and reefer stuff where an automated system isn't going to cut it. A person beating bushes making something happen is just what it's going to take sometimes there's no way around that.TallJoe Thanks this. -
I agree a 99%; but I know that from Columbus, OH back to Elk Grove Village, IL I can't get more then 600 at present time. Too many white Volvos - myself included wanting to go home. So whatever, and whoever "just take me home" attitude. You can of course frown at this but if can book a load for that much the day before I'll take it blindly (in an automated way too) if time is of essence. For example, last Thursday I waited until too late in Columbus, OH and ended up going empty 390 miles. I needed to be home on Friday. I could've booked one for 525 from CHR the previous day but thought I could always find something for that little on Thursday. I did not.

I don't frown at it. You do what you gotta do. I'm sure there are guys in Columbus that get called once in a whole and won't do it for less than $1,500-$2,000 on those random, rare occasions when the white Volvo disappear. I do that around here on loads to Chicago. Very seldom ever go there. But when I do its a money maker. The flip side is I grab whatever I can get back to TN or just deadhead back. Whatever gets me there quickest and easiest.

Uber....as in online phone app for car ride?
That uber is in trucking? -
As you probably already know by now yes they are. Bit of a shower though.

That's correct. CH is increasing moving to an automated system that gives carriers more flexibility to browse rates. Those big bumps in rates you are seeing is CH going back to the customer to explain what the market is saying. "Mr Customer, you may want $1500 but it's going to cost $3k if you want it now." I don't know how Convoy or Uber is going to deal with under-bidding/no coverage situations.

Uber actually has people you can talk with if you have issues with a load or want to negotiate. That automated stuff doesn't cut it when things are in flux everywhere.
