So recently I turned when I go from ON position to crank, it just clicks and nothing happens. I have removed and cleaned the terminals. It kept on doing this for a few time and on the display it would show that the Neutral is not dedected. I then unplugged/plugged under the ishift lever amd started the truck and it started fine.
It then started to give ECU maintenance required message.
Also, when i keep cabin lights on and try to start it, the lights would turn off for a few seconds.
The batteries are good and my mechanic wants me to change started.
What do you think?

I work for a Volvo dealer, this is the comment from our Service Manager.
The customer is right to suspect the starter will likely not fix the issue. Sounds more like the shifter itself especially if he unplugged it and the truck started. Could also be the battery disconnect switch, I've seen those act up in strange ways.Socal Xpress Thanks this. -
i would say it is the battery disconnect switch have seen this problem happen million times starter is not getting enough power.
KB3MMX and Socal Xpress Thank this. -
ECM maintenance typically is the ecm losing power for a few mins, it should go away on its own. Probably happened when you disconnected the lead and reconnected.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Yes it goes away after.
And correction: its ECU msg and not ECM. -
-
It's typically the small lead on the front battery, about a 14 gauge red wire connected to the terminal. As long as you tightened everything back up, it goes away.
-
you can just remove the cable from switch and bypass it altogether. just connect them together. and see what happens
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Never got a chance to take the truck to the mechanic. Will be taking it tomorrow.
When this issue happens and I crank it, there seems to be a spark behind the cut-off switch. -
