Has anyone done a engine swap in a 379 exhd from a detroit to a cat? Im wondering if they rear motor mount location will be in the same spot or will new holes have to be drilled into the frame? I know ac lines and coolant lines will change along with other plumbing stuff. Appreciate the input.

Ya pretty sure we're going to part ways. I'm going to finally get the 4912 cam put in and have Erich retune the truck and see how it does. I got the opportunity to drive a 379 like mine with a 550 cat and it ran down the road and pulled the load of cattle I was hauling so effortlessly I was really impressed.

Yeah well there both nice engines and both have there pro's and con's.
The cat is deffinatly a nicer more user friendly engine to drive. The Detroit lacks the torque of the cat down low.

But you'll be almost a full mpg less fuel with your Detroit. Parts are way cheaper and they pull almost as good , just have to keep the rpm up. I guess it really comes down to how much more you want to pay in fuel and how bad you want a yellow motor under the hood.

I just feel I'm always into the Detroit so hard when loaded and just beating the piss out of it. Where as the cat I just cruised along and never had to work it as hard. Having that overall grunt from the cat was really nice and it just motored along.

I'll see what the cam and new tuning do for the truck and go from there. I'm ok giving up some mpg. Not like I get that great of mileage hauling a pot anyways.

So even with your tune, turbo etc the 12.7 is still pretty slow? I was lookin at doing the same stuff to mine but maybe it's not worth it.....

The tune from Erich is the biggest change you can do. My little ddec 2 jumped almost 1 mpg and hills thast I wouldf have to drop a gear just stayed on cruise as flew up over them.

No the detroit always served me well with what I had done to it. I think in my personal opinion that for hauling a cattle pot the cat suits me better and the detroit was awesome when I hauled flatbed. I do have some parts for sale in the classifieds that are off my motor if you guys are interested.
